Saints men and women win Sunday games to sweep weekend series’

FAIRFIELD, CT » It’s their first 4- 0 start in 22 years.

The Siena Saints men’s basketball teamdefeat­ed Fairfield 75- 68 on Sunday afternoon, completing the sweep of the weekend series and remaining undefeated.

After coming off the bench on Saturday, freshman Aidan Carpenterm­ade his first start for the Saints and he didn’t disappoint. The 6”5’ guard scored scored 19 points in 37 minutes.

The Saints were without their top scorer so far this season, Jalen Pickett, who did not play in the game due to a leg injury. It is unclear how much time he is expected to miss.

The Stags came out to an early lead and without Pickett, the Saints soon had to find someone to step up in his absence. In addition to Carpenter, Siena had three others score in double digits.

Jordan King, an Albany CBA graduate, scored 18points. Manny Camper had a double-double with 17 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Jackson Stormo added on 10 points for the Saints.

Siena defeated Fairfield 7458 on Saturday night, a game in which Pickett scored the 1,000th point of his collegiate career.

The Siena men are next scheduled to face Rider, on the road, on January 15 and 16, with each game at 7 p.m.

SIENAWOMEN

The Siena women’s basketball team evened up their record at 2-2 on Sunday afternoon with a 6960 win over Rider.

Margo Peterson stepped up for Siena in a breakout game this season, scoring 21 points, with 6 rebounds in 26 minutes off the bench.

Isis Young scored 13 points and Rayshel Brown scored 11, with 7 rebounds. In her second game of the season, Amari Anthony scored 10 points, with 6 rebounds.

Marilena Gerostergi­ou added 6 points and 12 rebounds. For Rider, Daija Moses led the way with 15 points, followed by 14 points from Raphaela Toussaint. Toussaint also grabbed 11 rebounds to complete her doubledoub­le while compiling three assists, two steals, and a block. Amanda Mobley would score six points while dishing out a team-high five assists in the process.

The Saints sweep over Rider puts them back on track after getting swept in their opening series against Fairfield.

The Siena women return to action this Friday, January 15when they head to Quinnipiac for a pair of games over the weekend, beginning at 4 p.m.
