WINTER DISCOVERY NATURE WALK: On Sunday, January 17th , at 1:00 pm Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park will be hosting a Winter Discovery Nature Walk. It will take place at Camp Saratoga North off of Scout Road in Wilton. During this walk over gentle terrain participan­ts will learn about how the plants and animals living within the surroundin­g environmen­t have adapted to survive the harsh conditions of winter. Together, participan­ts will also discuss the basics of winter tree identifica­tion. If there is snow, these programs will include searching for signs of recent animal activity, including looking for animal tracks in the snow. Program run time is approximat­ely one hour. A second Winter Discovery Nature Walk is also scheduled for the following day, Monday the 18th starting at 1:00pm. If needed, snowshoes will be available for rental prior to the program at Parking Lot #1 on Scout Road. Snowshoe rentals are $5 per person, $3 for kids/students. Registrati­on is required at least one business day in advance of the event. Face masks will be required to be worn throughout the duration of the program. Participan­ts should park in Parking Lot #1 on Scout Road, town of Wilton. BLOOD DRIVE: An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held from noon to 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 18 at Saratoga Casino Hotel, located at 342 Jefferson St. in Saratoga Springs. Appointmen­ts are strongly encouraged in order to observe social distancing. The Red Cross and the National Football League are partnering this January, during National Blood Donor Month, to urge individual­s – especially those who have recovered from COVID-19 – to give blood and to help tackle the national convalesce­nt plasma shortage. Those who come to give blood, platelets or plasma in January 2021 will automatica­lly be entered for a chance to win a getaway to the 2022 Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles. As an extra thank-you from the Red Cross, those who come to give between Jan. 1 through 20 this year, will also be automatica­lly entered to win a Big Game at Home package, which includes a 65-inch television and $500 gift card toward food and fun so their household can enjoy an awesome viewing experience safely at home. HISTORY AT HOME: Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site is excited to announce its 2021 Virtual “History at Home” Winter Lecture series. The program, Otis Eddy’s Aqueduct, will explore Eddy’s life and how he came to be a canal contractor for the Schoharie Creek Aqueduct.
