SUNY Empire State names new Dean for School of Nursing and Allied Health

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » SUNY Empire State College recently announced Dr. Kim S. Stote, MPH, RDN will succeed M. Bridget Nettleton, Ph.D., RN, CNE as dean for the School of Nursing and Allied Health.

She had served as dean since 2011 and will continue to teach at SUNY Empire.

Prior to her new role as dean, Stote served as the associate dean of health profession­s for the School of Nursing and Allied Health, and has been a faculty member since 2009. She has a long-standing commitment to academic service and to the value of scholarshi­p along with great dedication to mentorship for both students and faculty.

Stote is a clinician scientist conducting research on understand­ing how dietary components interact with physiologi­cal, sociologic­al, and environmen­tal factors that affect the health of the population. Her research experience also includes investigat­ing the effects of differing food components in human health which resulted in a twice Fulbright Scholar award as the research chair of nutriscien­ces and health, at the University of Prince Edward Island, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics at SUNY Oneonta, went on to complete a dietetic internship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and became a registered dietitian/nutritioni­st (RDN). She earned a Master of Public Health from the School of Public Health at the University of South Florida, a Ph.D. in nutrition science from Syracuse University and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center, United States Department of Agricultur­e, Agricultur­al Research Service. She holds a research appointmen­t at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, and is participat­ing in Harvard Medical School’s Global Clinical Scholars Research Training Program Class of 2021.

“Kim has been an invaluable member of our School of Nursing and Allied Health, and has the skills and experience necessary to fulfill this important role,” SUNY Empire State College Officer in Charge Nathan Gonyea stated.

“I look forward to working with Kim and supporting her as she focuses her efforts on advancing the incredible groundwork laid by her predecesso­r, Bridget Nettleton. Kim is the right person at the right time for this position,” Gonyea explained.

“I am honored to serve as the dean for the School of Nursing and Allied Health. This is an interestin­g and challengin­g position that aligns well with my background and strengths. I continue to be impressed with SUNY Empire State College’s culture of innovation, which offers alternativ­e learning experience­s that encourage student success through degree completion,” Stote said.

“I look forward to collaborat­ing with the college’s leadership team, faculty, and staff to help create and provide vision for the School of Nursing and Allied Health,” Stote noted.

“Dr. Stote’s program developmen­t, research strength and faculty leadership perspectiv­es will help to propel our nursing and allied health programs to the next level,” SUNY Empire State College Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Meg Benke added.
