ALBANY, N.Y. » Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy confirmed two new COVID-19 related deaths on Monday. The victims were a woman in her 60s and a woman in her 80s. The county death toll is 317 since the pandemic began being tracked last March.

The county executive also announced 84 new positive cases. Encompassed within those new cases were 20 who had close contact with positive cases, 62 who did not have clear sources of infection at this time, and two are healthcare workers or residents of congregate settings.

The county has 1,459 active cases in the county, and 2,646 people under mandatory quarantine. Conversely, 194 cases have been cleared for recovery and release.

Additionally, McCoy noted nine new hospitalizations overnight, and there are 143 county residents currently hospitalized from the virus. Plus, there are 13 patients in the ICU.

“COVID-19 continues to take the lives of our residents, and my thoughts and prayers are with the families during this difficult time. We’re seeing the aftermath of the holiday surge as expected, but we also continue to see the number of infections decline.Albany County’s 7-day average for percent positive rates has dropped

to 5.5% from 6.4% over just two days. We need everyone to follow the health guidelines so this trend lasts,” McCoy stated.

“The pandemic has hurt so many of us, but it has disproportionately impacted our African American communities across the state and the country. With the start of February and Black History Month, I’m looking forward to two countysponsored events that will shine a light on how COVID is affecting everyday life for some, and how we can move forward through this dark chapter,” McCoy added.

The county executive also reminded residents who want to check their eligibility for the vaccine and sign up for a shot at a staterun facility to use the state’s website or call the state vaccine hotline at 1-833-6974829. For general information on the vaccine and eligibility, residents can also dial the United Way of the Greater Capital Region’s 2-1-1.
