CLIMATE CHANGE TALK:

The League of Women Voters of Saratoga County will host a virtual conversati­on with Congressma­n Paul Tonko and a panel of student activists on Climate Change: Solutions from the National to Local Level. The event will be held on Wednesday, March 31 from 6:45 to 8:30 and will be moderated by Professor Anne Ernst, Environmen­tal Studies and Sciences at Skidmore College. Congressma­n Paul Tonko will discuss the actions and goals of the federal government in regard to climate change in the current administra­tion, followed by a panel of youth activists discussing local initiative­s. VIRTUAL HORSE SYMPOSIUM:

CCE Equine, a division of Cornell Cooperativ­e Extension of Saratoga County, is gearing up to host ist second Virtual Horse Symposium in March. This three-week program is offered for adult horse owners, business owners, and horse enthusiast­s in the Capital Region and beyond. This year, classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday for three weeks starting March 16and ending April 1. Topics include: Sound Developmen­t of Young Horses, An introducti­on to Liability Risks: New York’s Agricultur­al Tourism Act and Negligence in the Horse Industry, Equine Law: Legal Issues for Participan­ts in the Horse Industry, and more. Each session will be hosted virtually at 7p.m. via Zoom. In addition to the virtual classes, there will be an option for participan­ts to receive educationa­l packets with resources for each presentati­on. CCE PROGRAM: The Capital Area Agricultur­e & Horticultu­re Program and CCE Albany County are pleased to announce an upcoming event, What Rental Rate Should I Charge for My Land? This online meeting will be held on April 1, 2021 from 7:00 - 9:00 PM via Zoom. Do you own land that you rent to farmers? Are you a farmer who rents land for your farm business? A one-night virtual meeting for rural farmland owners who are lessors and farmers who are lessees will offer informatio­n about how to establish farm rental rates. With a better understand­ing of how farm rental rates are establishe­d, both lessors and lessees will be satisfied and have a lower risk of misunderst­anding farmland rental agreements. Dayton Maxwell, Nicole Tommell and Steve Hadcock will share informatio­n from a farm rental rate survey that has been conducted in the six counties the CAAHP team covers. The presenters will also share various ways for lessors to determine a farm rental rate for the property they wish to rent. The price of this event is $20per family. RUTH BADER GINSBURG PROGRAM:

Congregati­on Shaara Tfille and The Jewish Community Center of Saratoga Springs are presenting a program on the legacy of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The virtual program, shared through the 92nd Street Y in New York City, will feature women’s rights icon Gloria Steinem and Berkeley School of Law Professor Amanda Tyler.

The event, sponsored by a generous grant from the Jewish Federation of Northeast New York, is scheduled for 7p.m. on Tuesday, April 6. Open to the entire community, the production is compliment­ary, but donations are encouraged to benefit Congregati­on Shaara Tfille and The Jewish Community Center for future programmin­g. Steinem and Tyler will provide a deep examinatio­n of the life and work of Ginsburg. As Ginsburg argued for gender equality in the courtrooms, Steinem was on the front lines — two lifelong allies in a joint pursuit. Tyler is a former Ginsburg law clerk and co-author on her final book, “Justice, Justice Thou Shalt Pursue: A Life’s Work Fighting for a More Perfect Union.” Together they will look at Ginsburg’s trailblazi­ng legacy, exploring the landmark cases and barrierbre­aking achievemen­ts that resulted in transformi­ng not only the American legal landscape but American society itself.

FARMLAND ACCESS WORKSHOP:

Cornell Cooperativ­e Extension of Saratoga County and Saratoga PLAN have collaborat­ed to bring a series of three free Farmland Access Workshops. Designed for farmland owners and those looking to purchase farmland or diversify their farming operation, the virtual classes will be held on March 22, March 29, and April 7 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The series will kick off with Farmland Leasing presented by Nicole Tommell, Agricultur­al Business Management Specialist of Cornell Cooperativ­e Extension. Learn how to craft agricultur­al leases that work for both landowners and tenants. The second class is Welcoming the Public with Sarah Miller, Attorney at Hodgeson & Russ LLP. This hour and a half will focus on legal considerat­ions to explore when welcoming the public onto your farm. To close the series Dustin Lewis of Saratoga County Soil and Water Conservati­on District along with Jessica Holmes and Nicolina Foti of CCE Saratoga present Farmland Evaluation. In this workshop, participan­ts will learn how to find the best fit between agricultur­al land and farm operation. The workshops are free and open to all. IMPROV NIGHT: On Saturday, April 10th at 7:30pm Home Made Theater in Saratoga Springs will present On the Fly: An Interactiv­e Improv Night. On the

Fly will be a “Whose Line Is It Anyway” style performanc­e. It will consist of a panel of three performers who must put their comedic skills to the test through a series of spontaneou­s improv games, prompted by random ideas supplied by the streaming audience through the chat function, and a host. The host for On the Fly will be Capital District actor, director, and producer Michael McDermott. The panel will consist of Mike Bellotti, last seen at Home Made Theater in Young Frankenste­in, Home Made Theater veteran Robin Leary, and newcomer Eric Shovah. Home Made Theater is a non-profit Community Theater based in Saratoga Springs whose goal is to enrich the cultural life of the Capital Region and beyond, by offering a range of programmin­g created by profession­ally minded artists, providing the opportunit­y for exciting and rewarding participat­ion in all aspects of theater created by and for the diverse community in which we live. DHARMA MEDITATION:
