REC CENTER CLOSED: The Saratoga Springs Recreation Center will be closed Thursday, April 1 through at least Monday, April 5 for cleaning. The department will send out an update when the facility reopens.

FREE LUNCH FOR SENIORS: Ballston Area Seniors are excited to announce four free boxed lunch dates, Mondays in April, with the generous support of our community health partner CDPHP. We will have 100 boxed lunches to hand out to area seniors on Mondays this April: 5, 12, 19, 26. These meals will be handed out on a first come first serve basis. Drive thru pickup, or eat in at the designated location inside our temporary home located at the gym on 15 Treible Ave. Due to

COVID guidelines a maximum of 50 people indoors. CDPHP has been providing these boxed

lunches throughout the Capital District at various locations in response to food insecurity and financial constraint­s caused by the COVID crisis. There will be no charge to seniors for this lunch.

Available for all area seniors. You do not need to be a Ballston Area Senior Member, a Town of

Milton, a Town of Ballston or a Ballston Spa resident to receive this lunch. All seniors are welcome.

No pre-registrati­on required; meals are available while supplies last. So, come and enjoy a free Boxed Lunch from noon to 3 p.m. Mondays in April at the Ballston Area Seniors temporary home at 15 Treible Avenue in the Milton Town Plaza, next to the Chinese restaurant. SENIOR BINGO: For Ballston Area Seniors members only, we can have Bingo at 12:30 p.m. on Mondays this April: 5, 12, 19, 26 at the Ballston Area Seniors temporary home at 15 Treible Ave. in the Milton Town Plaza, next to the Chinese restaurant. YELLOW RIBBON DAY DONATION DRIVE: Saratoga County Clerk Craig A. Hayner, today announced his office is spearheadi­ng its annual Yellow Ribbon Day donation collection drive to benefit Blue Star Mothers of America - NY 2. The County Clerk’s Office is partnering with the Saratoga County Chamber, Saratoga County Veterans Business Council, Hannaford stores in Saratoga County, and Blue Star Mothers of America - NY2 to support U.S. military members who are serving overseas. Donation collection boxes are at participat­ing Hannaford stores throughout Saratoga

County now through April 8. The collection will culminate on Yellow Ribbon Day, Friday, April 9, 2021 with a drive-thru donation drive from 9am to 11am at Veterans Memorial Park in Halfmoon. A brief outdoor ceremony commemorat­ing Yellow Ribbon Day will be held at 11am following the donation drive-thru collection. The public is encouraged to visit their local participat­ing Hannaford store or attend the drive-thru event to donate goods. The Blue Star Mothers - NY2 will use the donations to make “Freedom Boxes” to ship to deployed troops who call the Capital Region home. Snack and personal care donations requested include individual and travel size packages of crackers, microwavab­le cup of soup, fruit snacks, granola bars, and beef jerky, as well as personal care items such as insect repellent wipes, toothbrush­es, body wash, deodorant, lip balm, puzzle books, and more. BALLSTON AREA SENIORS: The Ballston Area Seniors will temporaril­y hold meetings at the Fitness & Cycle Gym next to the China City in the Hannaford Plaza 15 Trieble Ave. Milton.

Meeting will be the First & Third Thursday of each month. A maximum of 40 members and COVID guidelines will be followed. Call Linda Elmer (518-885-4839) if you are going to attend the meeting to be put on the list. On the first Thursday of the month food will be provided check your email, for the meal. Call Linda to order food & sign up. Or bring your own lunch on this day. Bring your own lunch on the Third Thursday of the month. We will have a 50/50, BINGO if we have 10 members or more to play. Hopefully we will be back in the Community Center by August 1, 2021. We do have two small rooms back, the craft & pool rooms. According to COVID-19 roles for social distancing and seating. We can have 6 people in each room.

BROWN BREAD & BAKE SALE: Simpson United Methodist Church, 1089 Rock City Road, Rock City Falls (.4 mi south of Route 29) is once again hosting their famous Steamed Brown Bread and Bake Sale in time for Mother’s Day. Brown bread is a delicious, rich and hearty treat loaded with molasses and raisins, that is steamed in coffee cans over a water bath. It freezes well, keeps great in the fridge and is wonderful toasted with butter or cream cheese or eaten as is. Place your order by calling 518-885-4794 before Monday April 26, leaving your name, phone number and desired number of loaves ($6.50 each). OPERATION HUNGER: Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Rotary Club will be collecting nonperisha­ble food items for our current initiative - Operation Hunger. Please join us in helping to alleviate hunger and supporting people in need within our local community. BHBL Rotary Club is providing an “Operation Hunger” collection box at Gil’s Garage, 817 Saratoga Rd, Burnt Hills, NY.

THEATRE AUDITIONS: Malta Spotlighte­r’s Theatre Troupe announces auditions for Robin Hood. Auditionin­g children (ages 10+), teens and adults, Sunday April 11 from 2:00pm4:00pm or Monday April 12 from 6:00pm-8:30pms at the Malta Community Center, One Bayberry Drive, Malta. Especially needed: Teen and adult men! Auditions will be scheduled in small groups and by appointmen­t only. All Covid-19 protocols will be explained when requesting your appointmen­t. Rehearsals will begin April 19 and run most Monday and Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons until performanc­es. Performanc­es are tentativel­y slated over two weekends, June 12 & 13 and June 19 & 20, subject to Covid-19 limitation­s at the time. FARMLAND ACCESS WORKSHOP: Cornell Cooperativ­e Extension of Saratoga County and Saratoga PLAN have collaborat­ed to bring a series of three free Farmland Access Workshops. Designed for farmland owners and those looking to purchase farmland or diversify their farming operation, the virtual classes will be held on March 22, March 29, and April 7 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The series will kick off with Farmland Leasing presented by Nicole Tommell, Agricultur­al Business Management Specialist of Cornell Cooperativ­e Extension. Learn how to craft agricultur­al leases that work for both landowners and tenants. The second class is Welcoming the Public with Sarah Miller, Attorney at Hodgeson & Russ LLP. This hour and a half will focus on legal considerat­ions to explore when welcoming the public onto your farm. To close the series Dustin Lewis of Saratoga County Soil and Water Conservati­on District along with Jessica Holmes and Nicolina Foti of CCE Saratoga present Farmland Evaluation. In this workshop, participan­ts will learn how to find the best fit between agricultur­al land and farm operation. The workshops are free and open to all.
