Guerra announces run for Accounts Commissioner
Samantha Guerra has formally announced her candidacy for Saratoga Springs Commissioner of Accounts.
A single mom, Guerra wants to give back to the community by serving on the City Council, and has secured the Working Families, Republican and Conservative lines.
Guerra has been a stay-athome mother, caring for her two sets of twins.
She also has a passion and strong drive for overseeing daily operations and management.
“The fiscal challenges our city faces are real. That’s why it’s so important to have engaged, creative and proactive leadership in Accounts. I bring a fresh perspective to the table. I want to build a team around me that represents what Saratoga is all about: community and integrity. I will reimagine, redesign and modernize Accounts to ensure that all programs and services are effectively fulfilling the needs of our community,” Guerra said in a press release.
Guerra previously ran the multimillion-dollar, flagship store for the regional Dunkin’ Donuts where she successfully performed a wide array of duties from managing human resources to budgets to stocking shelves.
Guerra is in the process of obtaining her bachelor’s degree in business management and economics.
“As Commissioner of Accountants, I will be serving as Saratoga Springs clerk of our city’s budget, serving as the customer service representative and ensuring all programs are running smoothly, all tasks I’ve excelled in,” Guerra said in the release. “Running the day to day operations of a multi-million dollar organization gave me the practical and foundational experience to be able to serve our tremendous city in a similar capacity.”
Guerra is a domestic violence survivor who wants to ensure that the programs that were once a lifeline for her and her family continue to operate successfully and efficiently to provide life-changing relief and aid to the community.
“As I’ve started to see our city’s programs and services fall apart, I want to do my part to help and revitalize the programs that have given so much to Saratogians who need help the most,” she said in the release. “While I struggled through domestic violence and abuse, Saratoga Springs offered an outpour of support for me, and my children. I want to give back to the community that helped me to become a survivor and create a better, safer life for myself and my children. I want to show my children that when life presents challenges, hard-work, perseverance and faith will take you on a tremendous journey.”
As Saratoga Springs continues to deal with the ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic, Guerra said she has seen the community come together and support each other like never before. “While economic uncertainty remains, Guerra has the skills and knowledge needed to efficiently budget and ensure that all programs remain operational for our residents,” the release said. “In the position of Accounts, Guerra will fight to make sure our children receive the best Saratoga Springs has to offer.”
Guerra has lived in Saratoga Springs since she was a teenager and the city is home for her two sets of twins, ages nine and six.
