SCHUYLERVILLE, N.Y. >> The popular Turning Point Parade is planning a triumphant return for this weekend.

The 26th annual Turning Point Parade is scheduled to step off at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 1 in the Village of Schuylerville.

“This summer spectacular, considered to be one of the best parades in the area, was canceled last year due to the pandemic,” a press release from event organizers explained. “This year’s parade promises to return with all the elements of a good old-fashioned parade. Please join us and help celebrate our triumphant return.”

The yearly summertime parade is meant to commemorate the American Victory at the Battle of Saratoga in 1777 during the American Revolutionary War. This battle has

come to be known by historians as the turning point of the American Revolution.

After a year without a parade, the community is excited to welcome it back.

“The Turning Point Parade is one of the largest annual events in our village,” said Village of Schuylerville Mayor Dan Carpenter. “We are thrilled to welcome this event back to historic Schuylerville. It is not only a favorite of our village residents, but of countless others who come from all around to celebrate the history and heritage of our village.

“I extend my heartfelt thanks and praise to the Turning Point Parade committee—they struggled with the decision to cancel last year’s parade and have worked tirelessly to make this year’s parade happen. I can’t wait to see this event happen in person!”

This year’s event theme “Family Farming - Planting Our Future” pays tribute to the many family farms that operate in Saratoga County and throughout the Hudson Valley. Many of these farms have been in existence for generations, some even dating back to the days of General Philip Schuyler and the American Revolution.

The 2021 Turning Point Parade Grand Marshals are Steve and Laurie Griffen, owners and operators of The Saratoga Sod Farm, located south of Schuylerville on Route 4 near the Saratoga National Park. This family-owned generational business supplies top-quality sod from acreage along the Hudson River to families and businesses all over the United States.
