GlobalFoundries, UAlbany enter education partnership
ALBANY, N.Y. >> Employees at GlobalFoundries (GF) has a new pathway to enhance their education through a partnership with the University at Albany that launched this summer.
This partnership, the first of its kind at UAlbany, offers benefits to GF U.S.-based employees who choose to pursue undergraduate and graduate programs on campus.
The agreement includes graduate application fee waivers, priority application review for all eligible undergraduate and graduate programs, deferred billing options and affordable online tuition rates for out-of-state employees.
Employees can further benefit by utilizing GF’s tuition reimbursement program.
“There are currently more than 120 UAlbany alumni companywide working on our GF team, several in leadership positions. This educational partnership is a great opportunity for our employees to enhance their skills and careers,” said Peter Benyon, GF Fab 8 vice president and general manager, in a press release. “For UAlbany, partnering with GF brings skilled professionals to campus, broadening the learning experience for current attendees, and provides a regular cadence of new students.”
UAlbany provost and senior vice president for academic affairs Carol Kim added, “We are proud to announce this new educational partnership with GlobalFoundries, a major employer in the Capital Region. Strengthening our relationship with GF will provide its employees with opportunities to further their education and careers, while also increasing UAlbany’s talent pipeline in the growing semiconductor manufacturing industry.”
GF is one of the world’s leading semiconductor manufacturers, employing more than 15,000 employees worldwide.

GF also recently announced that it plans to build a second semiconductor fabrication plant in Malta that will double its manufacturing capacity and lead to 1,000 more jobs.
This new partnership adds to UAlbany and GF’s longstanding relationship, which includes offering a wide range of internship opportunities, classroom visits and other speaking engagements with students.
In addition, GF has a strong recruitment presence on campus, including participation in the University’s annual career fair.
