THOMAS FRANCIS CORBETT

Ballston Spa, NY Thomas Francis Corbett, 78 passed away on August 1, 2021, following a courageous battle with cancer. Tom, a resident of Ballston Spa, was born in Johnstown, New York to the late Francis and Agnes Corbett on October 11, 1942. He graduated from Johnstown High School in 1960 and Hudson Valley Community College in 1963. He was predeceased by his son, Scott.

Tom spent his work life in manufacturing, consulting and as an entrepreneur, working at General Electric, McGuire Company and L&H Equipment, then later ran his own hospitality business, The Empress Motel in Schulyerville, New York where he loved to engage his guests and assist his overall community.

Tom’s favorite spot was the Great Sacandaga Lake where he enjoyed family, friends, a perfect swim and a cold beer. If he wasn’t enjoying the lake he could often be found taking a car ride throughout the Adirondack region, frequently stopping to take photographs of leaves, a rainbow or another perfect scene. These rides were also one of the many times he would listen to music from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, always able to recite the artist, the album, the year and the lyrics, while also perfectly referencing the make and model for every automobile from the same decades as they passed by. This love of rides, driving and cars led to an enjoyed retirement job as a Courier at Able Express.

Tom is survived by his daughter Michelle (Tod) of Manlius, New York, his “daughter” Jessica (Brad) of South Glens Falls, New York and his longtime companion and partner in all things fun, Patricia Smrtic of Amsterdam, New York. He is also survived by his brother James (Marilyn) of Johnstown, sister Frances, of Rensselaer, beloved grandchildren (William, Lauren and Parker), a niece and several nephews.

A private family celebration of life will be held later in 2021.
