DHARMA MEDITATION: Dharma Meditation with Pierre Zimmerman has returned to an in person or live format at Caffe Lena! Meetings are held Sundays from 9 — 10:15am. Dharma Meditation includes inspirational topics that support emotional, cognitive, and ethical wishes for wellbeing. This is a sitting meditation for 25 minutes with a silent break allowing people to stretch, followed by a second sitting, introduced by a brief talk. A discussion on the topic and some insights and reflections about the nature and commonality of our basic humanity is shared by attendees. FISHING COMPETITION: Hudson Crossing Park invites anglers of all ages to “Keepin’ It REEL,” a fun and family friendly fishing competition. Participants will fish on the Hudson from Schuylerville to Fort Edward from 8 — 11:30am on Sunday, August 8, 2021. All types of fish are accepted, and fish must be photographed while being measured and released unharmed. Participants can fish from shore, dock, or registered boat, and live and artificial bait, lures, and flies are accepted. Bowfishing and spearfishing are not allowed. Submit your top ten legal fish (with photos) and the top total accumulation wins. For full details visit Hudson Crossing Park’s website. Awards will be distributed at HCP’s pavilion at noon with plenty of opportunities to swap fishing stories with others, enjoy fishing demos and try beer tastings! YOUTH FISHING TOURNAMENT: Lake Lauderdale Improvement Assoc.’s 25th annual children’s fishing tournament returns this year after COVID cancelled our plans in 2020. The tournament will take place on Sunday, August 8th at the Washington County Park Pavilion on beautiful Lake Lauderdale. The tournament is free and open to all young anglers age 15 and under and is strictly catch and release only. The tournament runs from 8:00-10:30 a.m. and concludes with a free hot dog lunch for all participants. As always, there will be no fee charged to children entering the contest. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. and all young anglers are required to stop at the pavilion prior to getting their fishing lines wet. There will be several different age groups and L.L.I.A. is working hard to ensure that all participants receive a small prize. All young anglers are required to have a parent or legal guardian on hand with them at all times. SUNDAY SUMMER STROLL: After a sold-out season of Summer Sunday Strolls in 2020, the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation is thrilled to announce that this year’s stroll series is underway. These historic walking tours will be offered every Sunday through September 5th at 10:30 a.m. in various neighborhoods throughout the city. All Sunday morning tours last approximately 90 minutes and require walking and standing on varied terrain. Tours will be limited to thirty and tickets must be purchased in advance. The cost per tour is $15 for SSPF members and $20 for nonmembers. Members who have received complimentary Stroll passes will have those honored for their value of $10 and will be required to pay the difference of $5. Sunday, Aug. 8 — Post Time! FITNESS IN THE PARK: Troy’s Fitness in the Park has returned for a new season running through Aug. 8 providing free yoga classes for the public. VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT: Spectators are welcome at the 30 th Annual Million Dollar Beach Volleyball Tournament to Benefit Prospect Center, an affiliate of the Center for Disability Services. The tournament has four divisions: AA, A, BB and B with Men’s, Women’s and Co-ed teams. Saturday, August 7 & Sunday, August 8. Play is scheduled to begin at 9 a. m. both days at Million Dollar Beach, Lake George. SARATOGA 9 & WINE: The Wesley Foundation, the philanthropic arm of The Wesley Community in Saratoga Springs, will host its second golf fundraiser “Saratoga 9 and Wine” on Tuesday, Aug. 10 at the Saratoga Lake Golf Club at 35 Grace Moore Road in Saratoga Springs. The event is a nine-hole scramble format golf outing with two tournaments being played on the front and back nine holes simultaneously. In addition, the event will feature wine and spirits tastings along the course, as well as other contests and activities. Funds raised through the Saratoga 9 & Wine event will benefit The Campaign For Springs to renovate the Springs Building at Wesley Health Care Center. The project will create a contemporary, efficient and homelike environment on the building’s second, third and fourth floors. Phase one of the project was completed in 2016. Golf registrations are $110 per person or $440 for a group of four and include tastings along the course as well as lunch.
