Saturday, Aug. 14 BAKER FAMILY REUNION:

The 156th Baker Family Reunion will only meet virtually this year because of the lingering effects of the Covid-19pandemic. The meeting will be held virtually on Zoom on August 14at 1:00 pm. Judy Farnan-Farago, president of the Baker Family Reunion of the descendant­s of James and Ruth Post Baker said it was decided to cancel the 2021 in-person Reunion out of an abundance of caution. The 2022 reunion will once again be held in person. This is only the third time an in-person reunion has been cancelled since it was first held in 1865. The other year was 1943, in the depths of WWII.

WATERFORD MEET THE CANDIDATES:

SUNDAY SUMMER STROLL:

After a sold-out season of Summer Sunday Strolls in 2020, the Saratoga Springs Preservati­on Foundation is thrilled to announce that this year’s stroll series is underway. These historic walking tours will be offered every Sunday through September 5th at 10:30 a.m. in various neighborho­ods throughout the city. All Sunday morning tours last approximat­ely 90 minutes and require walking and standing on varied terrain. Tours will be limited to thirty and tickets must be purchased in advance.

The cost per tour is $15for SSPF members and $20for non-members. Join CCE Equine for a free Horse Farm tour on Sunday, August 22th, 2021. The community is invited for a drive- it-yourself tour of select horse farms around the county; several local farms have graciously agreed to open their doors to the public from 12:00 — 4:00PM. WAMC@SPAC: “Horse Crazy with Sarah Maslin Nir” — On August 25at 7p.m. WAMC’s own Joe Donahue will interview award winning New York Times reporter and Pulitzer Prize finalist Sarah Maslin Nir about her new book Horse Crazy, a memoir that takes readers into the lesser-known corners of the equestrian world, woven through a captivatin­g narrative of her family’s history. She details her father’s harrowing tale of surviving the Holocaust, and describes an enchanted but deeply lonely upbringing in Manhattan, where horses became her family. Hudson Crossing Park and Mohawk Maiden Cruises are pleased to announce that they will offer three free local history cruises this summer on an authentic chain-driven sternwheel paddleboat. The weekend cruises—which will take place on June 27, July 24 and August 28beginnin­g at 2 p.m.—are generously sponsored by The Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor and the NYS Canal

Corporatio­n. The cruises will feature history presentati­ons from Hudson Crossing Park historians as the Caldwell Belle paddleboat meanders through the picturesqu­e Champlain Canal. The High & Mighty fundraiser is back and better than ever! This year’s event is for the whole family with games, dinner, music, raffle, and silent auction. Our special raffle this year is a pizza party for 20in the privacy of your own home with a wood-fired pizza oven and pizza chef! High & Mighty is making sure the event is run in the safest way possible. It is outdoors, on the grounds of our beautiful 60-acre farm, with some activities in a large indoor arena. The High & Mighty Therapeuti­c Riding and Driving Center is a not-for-profit organizati­on that offers equine-assisted services such as riding, driving, and groundwork to children and adults with disabiliti­es in our community. In addition, we offer a veterans program and an all-abilities recreation­al program. Benefits of equine-assisted services include but are not limited to: building muscle tone, strength, and control; increasing range of motion, endurance, balance, and sensory integratio­n; increasing self-esteem, problem solving, and communicat­ions skills (including nonverbal); and reducing anxiety. After a sold-out season of Summer Sunday Strolls in 2020, the Saratoga Springs Preservati­on Foundation is thrilled to announce that this year’s stroll series is underway. These historic walking tours will be offered every Sunday through September 5th at 10:30 a.m. in various neighborho­ods throughout the city. All Sunday morning tours last approximat­ely 90 minutes and require walking and standing on varied terrain. Tours will be limited to thirty and tickets must be purchased in advance. The cost per tour is $15for SSPF members and $20 for non-members. Members who have received compliment­ary Stroll passes will have those honored for their value of $10 and will be required to pay the difference of $5. Sunday, Aug. 29 — Women of Greenridge. Join leader Gloria May to learn about the women in Greenridge Cemetery. This tour includes the prominent and influentia­l as well as the ordinary women whose life stories tell the history of Saratoga Springs. GUIDED MEDITATION:

The Troy Public Library will offer Meditation Classes on Tuesdays, July 13th — August 31st at 6:30PM. This program is free and open to the public. Park are back for the 14th summer in a row, presented by the Ballston Spa Business and Profession­al Associatio­n, as part of its First Friday activities. The series begins on June 4 (rain date June 5) with “Trolls”. “The Croods” will be shown on July 2(rain date July

3), “Frozen 2” on August 6(rain date August 7) and “The Secret Life of Pets 2” on September 3(rain date September 4). All films are family-friendly. The movies are projected onto the wall of the adjacent Front Street Deli building on Front Street in the village and begin at dusk (approximat­ely 8:308:45 pm). All screenings are free. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. We will follow any continuing guidelines for safe public gatherings that may be in effect at the time of the event. CHEESE TOUR: The Washington County Cheese Tour with Wine, Beer &

Cider is back after being cancelled last year because of the pandemic. The annual Cheese Tour is on the weekend after Labor Day — Saturday, September 11 and Sunday, September 12 in 2021 — from 10 am to 4 pm. The outdoor tour is selfguided. Adventurer­s gather their friends and family to travel the twists and turns of Washington County’s country roads to visit four cheesemake­rs, a farm winery, a craft farmstead brewery and a farm cidery during the weekend event. There is no admission fee for The Tour. Limited free product samples will be provided and a full range of product samples will be available for a nominal fee. New to The Cheese Tour this year is Slyboro Ciderhouse located in Granville at the site of Hick’s Orchard. Slyboro’s owner, Dan Wilson, is longtime leader in agritouris­m in Washington County. Other stops on The Cheese Tour are Argyle Cheese Farmer at their new location in Fort Edward, Consider Bardwell Farm in Pawlet, VT, Dancing Ewe Farm in Granville, Moxie Ridge Farm in Argyle, R.S. Taylor & Son Brewery in West Hebron, and Victory View Vineyard in North Easton. Washington County Cheesemake­rs Guild, a nonprofit corporatio­n, puts on the annual event to forge a better understand­ing between customers and the cheese and craft beverages they love, as well as a way to support these farms and other businesses in rural Washington County during the two-day event.
