Altamont Fair kicks off
ALTAMONT, N.Y. >> The Altamont Fair is returning for 2021 from Tuesday, Aug. 17 through Sunday, Aug. 22, celebrating more than 125 years of showcasing agriculture and history and providing family-friendly entertainment.
The Altamont Fair is a three-county fair representing Albany, Schenectady, and Greene counties. It is a non-profit, public educational, and historical society supported entirely by admissions, rentals, contributions, and the assistance of hundreds of dedicated volunteers.
Some of this year’s special fair attractions include two demolition derbies — 7 p.m. on Wednesday and 2 p.m. on Sunday — lawnmower pulls, a The Kids Power Wheels ‘Demo Derby,’ cookie decorating with Miss Altamont Fair in the Blue Ribbon Cooking Center, race car building at the Auto Museum, a baby animal area called The Barnyard” and also “Hands-on Farming” for the little ones to learn about farm experiences.
Entertainment acts performing at this year’s fair are the Dynamo Dogs, Master Hypnotist Michael DeSchalit, The Royal Hanneford Circus, The Sherman Lumberjack Show and Uncharted Wild. A fireworks display will also be presented on Thursday night.
Altamont Fair continues its tradition of featuring great local bands that perform on the Reid Northrup Stage. Attendees can enjoy tunes by area favorites Geezer, Black Mountain Symphony, Skeeter Creek, Get Up Jack, Big Sky Country, and Grit N Whiskey.
Additionally, the Dreamland Amusements Midway will have an exciting thrill and kiddie rides and fair food will be abundant.
One-price admission (for patrons 36” and taller) is $22 at the gate and includes unlimited rides, attractions, The Royal Hanneford Circus, and parking. On Wednesday, seniors 65 years and older, Grange members, and members/ veterans of the Armed Forces receive free admission all day. These special admissions also include rides thanks to Dreamland Amusements.
