Saturday, Aug. 28 FREE HISTORY CRUISE:

Hudson Crossing Park and Mohawk Maiden Cruises are pleased to announce that they will offer three free local history cruises this summer on an authentic chain-driven sternwheel paddleboat. The weekend cruises—which will take place on June 27, July 24and August 28beginning at 2 p.m.—are generously sponsored by The Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor and the NYS Canal Corporation. The cruises will feature history presentations from Hudson Crossing Park historians as the Caldwell Belle paddleboat meanders through the picturesque Champlain Canal. The boat launches from Lock C5in Schuylerville, adjacent to Hudson Crossing Park.

Come celebrate the transformative work happening at the High & Mighty Therapeutic Riding and Driving Center. The Barn Doors Are Open: Kick Up

Your Heels! Saturday, August 28th, 5-10PM. The High & Mighty fundraiser is back and better than ever! This year’s event is for the whole family with games, dinner, music, raffle, and silent auction. Bring the kids for a scavenger hunt, ping-pong, corn hole, face painting, and more. For adults there will be plenty of fantastic items to bid on at our silent auction. Our special raffle this year is a pizza party for 20 in the privacy of your own home with a wood-fired pizza oven and pizza chef! High & Mighty is making sure the event is run in the safest way possible. It is outdoors, on the grounds of our beautiful 60-acre farm, with some activities in a large indoor arena. The arena has extra tall and wide windows and doors, which will be open for excellent cross-ventilation. There will be seating available, but we also encourage people to bring their own picnic blankets and chairs if they are more comfortable doing so. Dinner will be individually boxed meals, set out on a table for each person to pick up any time during the night. The High & Mighty Therapeutic Riding and Driving Center is a not-forprofit organization that offers equine-assisted services such as riding, driving, and groundwork to children and adults with disabilities in our community. In addition, we offer a veterans program and an all-abilities recreational program. Benefits of equineassisted services include but are not limited to: building muscle tone, strength, and control; increasing range of motion, endurance, balance, and sensory integration; increasing self-esteem, problem solving, and communications skills (including non-verbal); and reducing anxiety. When at capacity, High & Mighty provides equine-assisted services to approximately 90participants per week and is supported by a dedicated group of trained volunteers who totaled more than 2000hours of service in 2020. STORYTELLING: Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site will host local storyteller Sandy Schuman for the conclusion of the 2021Not Just for Kids Storytelling series on Sunday, August 29th at 6pm. This performance is open to the public of all ages and is free of charge. The series has brought local tellers, with well-crafted tales to perform during the 29th year of this program at Schoharie Crossing. Schuman will perform, “NY’s American Anthems:

The Stories of Yankee Doodle, Take Me Out To The Ballgame, God Bless America, and More.” He is a winner of the Susquehanna Folk Festival Liars Contest and the St. Louis Jewish Storytelling Contest and has been featured at The Northeast Storytelling Conference, Riverway Storytelling Festival, Caffè Lena, Proctors, Tellabration, and Limmud Boston. Schuman is also a member of the Story Circle of the Capital District, Northeast Storytelling, National Storytelling Network, Jewish Storytelling Coalition, and Lifetime Arts Creative Aging Roster who tells stories about songs and songwriters, personal adventures, historical sagas, folk tales, and stories in the Jewish storytelling tradition. He plays his theme song on a Jew’s harp and when you hear him play the guitar, you’ll know why he calls himself a storyteller. Not Just for

GUIDED MEDITATION:

The Troy Public Library will offer Meditation Classes on Tuesdays, July 13th — August 31st at 6:30PM. This program is free and open to the public. The Troy Public Library is located at 100 Second Street, Troy. Spend an hour discovering how to easily meditate, de-stress, and gain a better handle on attention and emotions. Most find the experience simpler and more beneficial than expected. Learn with stress management coach Michael Fuselli with more than 35 years of experience. Beginners are always welcome. FREE SUMMER MOVIES:

Park are back for the 14th summer in a row, presented by the Ballston Spa Business and Professional Association, as part of its First Friday activities. The series begins on June 4 (rain date June 5) with “Trolls”. “The Croods” will be shown on July 2(rain date July

3), “Frozen 2” on August 6(rain date August 7) and “The Secret Life of Pets 2” on September 3(rain date September 4). All films are family-friendly. The movies are projected onto the wall of the adjacent Front Street Deli building on Front Street in the village and begin at dusk (approximately 8:308:45 pm). All screenings are free. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. We will follow any continuing guidelines for safe public gatherings that may be in effect at the time of the event. These may include social distancing measures, face masks and limited capacity in the park for movie viewers. Dharma Meditation with Pierre Zimmerman has returned to an in person or live format at Caffe Lena! Meetings are held Sundays from 9 — 10:15am. After a sold-out season of Summer Sunday Strolls in 2020, the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation is thrilled to announce that this year’s stroll series is underway. These historic walking tours will be offered every Sunday through September 5th at 10:30 a.m. in various neighborhoods throughout the city. All Sunday morning tours last approximately 90 minutes and require walking and standing on varied terrain. Tours will be limited to thirty and tickets must be purchased in advance. 9⁄11 CEREMONY OF REMEMBRANCE: At 10 am on Saturday, Sept. 11 at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, located at 200Duell Rd. in Schuylerville will host a ceremony in remembrance of the attack on Sept., 11 2011. This event is to honor the victims of that day, as well as those who have lost their lives in the years since due to health issues from working on the rescue and recovery efforts. We also honor those who served in the military and made the ultimate sacrifice. Several of these men and women are interred in this cemetery.

REPTILE EXPO: The Saratoga Reptile Expo is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11 at the Saratoga Springs City Center. The expo will offer its largest selection of animals and supplies to date. More than 130 vendor tables will be set up, including about 60 breeders from all over the East Coast selling captive bred and long-term captive reptiles, amphibians, small exotic mammals, invertebrates (primarily arachnids, mantids, and leaf bugs), and feeders, as well as enclosures and care items for these animals. An education room will feature hands-on learning opportunities with zoologists and professional educators.

Here, guest speakers will give presentations on various topics throughout the day. Presale tickets are being sold in hourly blocks to restrict the crowd to 50% of the capacity of the venue. Limited tickets may be available for sale at the door in accordance with Department of Health guidelines as of the day of the event. However, anyone interested in attending is encouraged to preorder tickets. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children ages six to 13, and admission for children age five and younger is free. CHEESE TOUR: The Washington County Cheese Tour with Wine, Beer &

Cider is back after being cancelled last year because of the pandemic. The annual Cheese Tour is on the weekend after Labor Day — Saturday, September 11 and Sunday, September 12 in 2021 — from 10 am to 4 pm. The outdoor tour is selfguided. Adventurers gather their friends and family to travel the twists and turns of Washington County’s country roads to visit four cheesemakers, a farm winery, a craft farmstead brewery and a farm cidery during the weekend event. There is no admission fee for The Tour. Limited free product samples will be provided and a full range of product samples will be available for a nominal fee. New to The Cheese Tour this year is Slyboro Ciderhouse located in Granville at the site of Hick’s Orchard. Slyboro’s owner, Dan Wilson, is longtime leader in agritourism in Washington County. Other stops on The Cheese Tour are Argyle Cheese Farmer at their new location in Fort Edward, Consider Bardwell Farm in Pawlet, VT, Dancing Ewe Farm in Granville, Moxie Ridge Farm in Argyle, R.S. Taylor & Son Brewery in West Hebron, and Victory View Vineyard in North Easton. AG DRIVE-IN MOVIE NIGHT:

The Saratoga County Agricultural Promotion Committee presents Ag Drive-In Movie Night hosted at the Malta DriveIn. On Sunday September 12 th the public is invited to enjoy one of two movies; Charlotte’s Web for the families and Farmland, a documentary for the more mature crowd. Gates will open at 6:00 PM and the films will be shown simultaneously at approximately 7:20PM. All proceeds will go to the Agricultural Promotion Committee Scholarship Fund. Since 2013, the committee has given out over $10,000 in scholarships to many deserving and committed young people.

CHEESE TOUR: The Washington County Cheese Tour with Wine, Beer & Cider is back after being cancelled last year because of the pandemic. The annual Cheese Tour is on the weekend after Labor Day — Saturday, September 11 and Sunday, September 12 in 2021 — from 10 am to 4 pm. The outdoor tour is selfguided. Adventurers gather their friends and family to travel the twists and turns of Washington County’s country roads to visit four cheesemakers, a farm winery, a craft farmstead brewery and a farm cidery during the weekend event. There is no admission fee for The Tour. Limited free product samples will be provided and a full range of product samples will be available for a nominal fee. New to The Cheese Tour this year is Slyboro Ciderhouse located in Granville at the site of Hick’s Orchard. Slyboro’s owner, Dan Wilson, is long-time leader in agritourism in Washington County. Other stops on The Cheese Tour are Argyle Cheese Farmer at their new location in Fort Edward, Consider Bardwell Farm in Pawlet, VT, Dancing Ewe Farm in Granville, Moxie Ridge Farm in Argyle, R.S. Taylor & Son Brewery in West Hebron, and Victory View Vineyard in North Easton. Washington County Cheesemakers Guild, a non-profit corporation, puts on the annual event to forge a better understanding between customers and the cheese and craft beverages they love, as well as a way to support these farms and other businesses in rural Washington County during the two-day event.

NATURE CRAFT HOURS:

Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park is continuing to host Nature Craft Hours under the pavilion at Camp Saratoga every Tuesday throughout August and September! This program runs from 4:00pm-5:00pm and is geared for children of all ages. Each Tuesday will feature a different and creative nature-themed arts project. Thursday, Sept. 16 HISTORY PRESENTATION:

The Saratoga

County History Roundtable will offer a presentation by Russ VanDervoort, Waterford Town Historian, at Brookside Museum in Ballston Spa on Thursday September 16 at 7:00 PM. Russ will tell the story of a 150 year old murder for hire plot that a newspaper called “The Most Damnable Murder Plot ever Ventilated!”, an event that unfolded in 1870-1871 that involved participants from throughout Saratoga County. SHEEP SHEARING CLINIC:

Saratoga County 4-H is offering a Sheep Shearing Clinic this fall to youth ages 10 and older.

The event will take place at the 4-H Training Center on Middleline Road in Ballston Spa on September 16, at 5pm. This clinic will exhibit the art of sheep shearing and preparing wool breeds for show. Participants will be provided a hands-on learning experience from professional shearer Siri Swanson of Yankee Rock Farm. Space is limited and expected to fill quickly. Payment of $5/family is required at entry or prior to the clinic. The event is free of charge for 4-H members and their families. FEAST OF THE FIELDS: Saratoga PLAN’s 15th annual Feast of the Fields is taking place on September 18th at the picturesque

Old Tavern Farm in Stillwater. The Tuscan-themed picnic event will celebrate the region’s agricultural bounty while raising funds to support PLAN’s ongoing efforts to conserve farmland and open space in Saratoga County. Feast of the Fields is a community celebration of farmland and the rural character of Saratoga County, which remains strong partly due to Saratoga PLAN’s conservation efforts. This year, a select number of chefs will craft complementing dishes to create a picnic experience like no other. Tuscan inspired appetizers, meat and vegetarian entrées, mouth-watering side dishes and desserts will transport your taste buds from the stunning grounds of Old Tavern Farm to the bucolic countryside and rolling hills of Tuscany. In keeping the health and safety of guests and community members in mind, a to-go option is available for individuals and families wishing to enjoy their picnic meal from the comfort of their home or at another favorite picnic spot. There is plenty more to do at Feast than eat, too. Six conservation Heroes will be honored this year. Reggie’s Red Hot Feetwarmers, the house band at Saratoga Race Course, will be playing throughout the Feast. A digital silent auction, featuring exciting experiences and eye-catching items will be running from Sept. 11 through the evening of Sept.18, with certain items onsite for in-person viewing. GIANT GARAGE SALE:

St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Waterford will again have their Giant Garage Sale on Saturday, September 18th both indoors and outdoors in the Parish Hall located on the corner of Sixth and Division Streets. The sale will run from 9:00 to 5:00 with early birds welcome from 8-9am at a cost of $5 per person. Donations will gratefully be accepted on the following dates only: Tuesday, Sept. 14th, Wednesday, Sept. 15th and Thursday, Sept. 16th from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm each day. No electronics or clothing, please. Books are appreciated, but no encyclopedias or magazines. Jewelry, home furnishings, linens and bedspreads, furniture and holiday decorations are particularly appreciated.
