Saturday, Aug. 28 FREE HISTORY CRUISE:

Hudson Crossing Park and Mohawk Maiden Cruises are pleased to announce that they will offer three free local history cruises this summer on an authentic chain-driven sternwheel paddleboat. The weekend cruises—which will take place on June 27, July 24and August 28beginnin­g at 2 p.m.—are generously sponsored by The Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor and the NYS Canal Corporatio­n. The cruises will feature history presentati­ons from Hudson Crossing Park historians as the Caldwell Belle paddleboat meanders through the picturesqu­e Champlain Canal. Your Heels! Saturday, August 28th, 5-10PM. The High & Mighty fundraiser is back and better than ever! This year’s event is for the whole family with games, dinner, music, raffle, and silent auction. Bring the kids for a scavenger hunt, ping-pong, corn hole, face painting, and more. For adults there will be plenty of fantastic items to bid on at our silent auction. Our special raffle this year is a pizza party for 20 in the privacy of your own home with a wood-fired pizza oven and pizza chef! High & Mighty is making sure the event is run in the safest way possible. It is outdoors, on the grounds of our beautiful 60-acre farm, with some activities in a large indoor arena. The arena has extra tall and wide windows and doors, which will be open for excellent cross-ventilatio­n. There will be seating available, but we also encourage people to bring their own picnic blankets and chairs if they are more comfortabl­e doing so. Dinner will be individual­ly boxed meals, set out on a table for each person to pick up any time during the night. The High & Mighty Therapeuti­c Riding and Driving Center is a not-forprofit organizati­on that offers equine-assisted services such as riding, driving, and groundwork to children and adults with disabiliti­es in our community. In addition, we offer a veterans program and an all-abilities recreation­al program. Benefits of equineassi­sted services include but are not limited to: building muscle tone, strength, and control; increasing range of motion, endurance, balance, and sensory integratio­n; increasing self-esteem, problem solving, and communicat­ions skills (including non-verbal); and reducing anxiety. When at capacity, High & Mighty provides equine-assisted services to approximat­ely 90particip­ants per week and is supported by a dedicated group of trained volunteers who totaled more than 2000hours of service in 2020. SUNDAY SUMMER STROLL:

After a sold-out season of Summer Sunday Strolls in 2020, the Saratoga Springs Preservati­on Foundation is thrilled to announce that this year’s stroll series is underway. These historic walking tours will be offered every Sunday through September 5th at 10:30 a.m. in various neighborho­ods throughout the city. All Sunday morning tours last approximat­ely 90 minutes and require walking and standing on varied terrain. Tours will be limited to thirty and tickets must be purchased in advance.

The cost per tour is $15for SSPF members and $20for non-members. Members who have received compliment­ary Stroll passes will have those honored for their value of $10 and will be required to pay the difference of $5. STORYTELLI­NG: Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site will host local storytelle­r Sandy Schuman for the conclusion of the 2021Not Just for Kids Storytelli­ng series on Sunday, August 29th at 6pm. This performanc­e is open to the public of all ages and is free of charge. The series has brought local tellers, with well-crafted tales to perform during the 29th year of this program at Schoharie Crossing. Schuman will perform, “NY’s American Anthems:

The Stories of Yankee Doodle, Take Me Out To The Ballgame, God Bless America, and More.” He is a winner of the Susquehann­a Folk Festival Liars Contest and the St. Louis Jewish Storytelli­ng Contest and has been featured at The Northeast Storytelli­ng Conference, Riverway Storytelli­ng Festival, Caffè Lena, Proctors, Tellabrati­on, and Limmud Boston. Schuman is also a member of the Story Circle of the Capital District, Northeast Storytelli­ng, National Storytelli­ng Network, Jewish Storytelli­ng Coalition, and Lifetime Arts Creative Aging Roster who tells stories about songs and songwriter­s, personal adventures, historical sagas, folk tales, and stories in the Jewish storytelli­ng tradition. He plays his theme song on a Jew’s harp and when you hear him play the guitar, you’ll know why he calls himself a storytelle­r. Not Just for

The Troy Public Library will offer Meditation Classes on Tuesdays, July 13th — August 31st at 6:30PM. This program is free and open to the public. Park are back for the 14th summer in a row, presented by the Ballston Spa Business and Profession­al Associatio­n, as part of its First Friday activities. The series begins on June 4 (rain date June 5) with “Trolls”. “The Croods” will be shown on July 2(rain date July

3), “Frozen 2” on August 6(rain date August 7) and “The Secret Life of Pets 2” on September 3(rain date September 4). All films are family-friendly. The movies are projected onto the wall of the adjacent Front Street Deli building on Front Street in the village and begin at dusk (approximat­ely 8:308:45 pm). All screenings are free. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. We will follow any continuing guidelines for safe public gatherings that may be in effect at the time of the event. 9⁄11 CEREMONY OF REMEMBRANC­E: At 10 am on Saturday, Sept. 11 at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, located at 200Duell Rd. in Schuylervi­lle will host a ceremony in remembranc­e of the attack on Sept., 11 2011. This event is to honor the victims of that day, as well as those who have lost their lives in the years since due to health issues from working on the rescue and recovery efforts. We also honor those who served in the military and made the ultimate sacrifice. Several of these men and women are interred in this cemetery.

REPTILE EXPO: The Saratoga Reptile Expo is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11 at the Saratoga Springs City Center. The expo will offer its largest selection of animals and supplies to date. More than 130 vendor tables will be set up, including about 60 breeders from all over the East Coast selling captive bred and long-term captive reptiles, amphibians, small exotic mammals, invertebra­tes (primarily arachnids, mantids, and leaf bugs), and feeders, as well as enclosures and care items for these animals. An education room will feature hands-on learning opportunit­ies with zoologists and profession­al educators.

Here, guest speakers will give presentati­ons on various topics throughout the day. Presale tickets are being sold in hourly blocks to restrict the crowd to 50% of the capacity of the venue. Limited tickets may be available for sale at the door in accordance with Department of Health guidelines as of the day of the event. However, anyone interested in attending is encouraged to preorder tickets. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children ages six to 13, and admission for children age five and younger is free. SHEEP SHEARING CLINIC:

Saratoga County 4-H is offering a Sheep Shearing Clinic this fall to youth ages 10 and older.

The event will take place at the 4-H Training Center on Middleline Road in Ballston Spa on September 16, at 5pm. This clinic will exhibit the art of sheep shearing and preparing wool breeds for show. Participan­ts will be provided a hands-on learning experience from profession­al shearer Siri Swanson of Yankee Rock Farm. Space is limited and expected to fill quickly. FEAST OF THE FIELDS: Saratoga PLAN’s 15th annual Feast of the Fields is taking place on September 18th at the picturesqu­e

Old Tavern Farm in Stillwater. The Tuscan-themed picnic event will celebrate the region’s agricultur­al bounty while raising funds to support PLAN’s ongoing efforts to conserve farmland and open space in Saratoga County. Feast of the Fields is a community celebratio­n of farmland and the rural character of Saratoga County, which remains strong partly due to Saratoga PLAN’s conservati­on efforts. This year, a select number of chefs will craft complement­ing dishes to create a picnic experience like no other. Tuscan inspired appetizers, meat and vegetarian entrées, mouth-watering side dishes and desserts will transport your taste buds from the stunning grounds of Old Tavern Farm to the bucolic countrysid­e and rolling hills of Tuscany. In keeping the health and safety of guests and community members in mind, a to-go option is available for individual­s and families wishing to enjoy their picnic meal from the comfort of their home or at another favorite picnic spot. There is plenty more to do at Feast than eat, too. Six conservati­on Heroes will be honored this year.
