-

Ballston Spa

Donald Gilbert Hauprich, 97, of Ballston Spa, was called to his heavenly home on August 24, 2021 following an ongoing series of recent setbacks. He passed on in comfort surrounded by family members.

Donald is fondly remembered as a husband, daddy, grandpa, and a great friend to many. He was at ease singing the Great American song book from the 1920’s up to yesterday. He had a tremendous sense of humor, and perfect timing as a story telling memory chaser.

Donald graduated from Albany High School in 1942. He was in the military from 1943 to 1946, proudly serving in the North African theater of World War II as a corporal in the United States Army. He sustained and survived injuries in Morocco and was a Disabled American Veteran.

Marrying the love of his life, Audrey Bopp in 1948, he raised his ten children through great childhoods in both Latham and Ballston Spa. He actively engaged the next generation into many of his interests such as fishing, table tennis, pinochle, family picnics, gardening, and amazing holidays.

Donald worked as a supply clerk for Allegheny Ludlum Steel and as an Electrical Maintenance jack of all trades for the University at Albany before retiring in December of 1984. He was a regular communicant and choir member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Ballston Spa.

Donald is survived by his wife of 73 years, Audrey, and ten children, Charlene Reese, Timothy Hauprich, Pamela Irish, Ann Hauprich (Cole Broderick), Francis Hauprich, William Hauprich, Christopher Hauprich (Joanne) all from Ballston Spa, Stephen Hauprich (Nancy) of Cicero, Andrew Hauprich (Sharon) of Schenectady, and Mary Reilly (David) of Littleton, NH. The family tree extends through 28 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 9:30am Monday, August 30 at St. Mary’s Church, Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Donald may be made to St. Mary’s Church, 185 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa, NY 12020.
