Sunday, Aug. 29 ROCK & ROLL FUNDRAISER:
The Latham Colonie Knights of Columbus will be hosting a 50’s Rock & Roll Fundraiser at the Council Hall, 328TroySchenectady Road, Latham, N.Y. 12110, on Sunday August 29th from 2 pm to 8 pm! $10 Donation. The ‘50s Rock & Roll Fundraiser will feature music by Al Bruno, Stevie B and a special appearance by “Frets”! Also Raffles, Games and Gift Baskets! Food available for purchase (Hotdogs, Cheeseburgers and Hamburgers)! Special Prize for the “Best dressed 1950s couple.” Outdoor seating is available. Please bring your own mask.
SUNDAY SUMMER STROLL:
After a sold-out season of Summer Sunday Strolls in 2020, the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation is thrilled to announce that this year’s stroll series is underway. These historic walking tours will be offered every Sunday through September 5th at 10:30 a.m. in various neighborhoods throughout the city.
All Sunday morning tours last approximately 90 minutes and require walking and standing on varied terrain. Tours will be limited to thirty and tickets must be purchased in advance. The cost per tour is $15for SSPF members and $20for non-members. Members who have received complimentary Stroll passes will have those honored for their value of $10 and will be required to pay the difference of $5. Sunday, Aug. 29 — Women of Greenridge.Join leader Gloria May to learn about the women in Greenridge Cemetery. This tour includes the prominent and influential as well as the ordinary women whose life stories tell the history of Saratoga Springs. Meet at: Sackett Gates entrance on Lincoln Avenue (Due to the distance covered during the tour it will take between 1.5and 2hours). STORYTELLING: Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site will host local storyteller
Sandy Schuman for the conclusion of the 2021Not Just for Kids Storytelling series on Sunday, August 29th at 6pm. This performance is open to the public of all ages and is free of charge. The series has brought local tellers, with well-crafted tales to perform during the 29th year of this program at Schoharie Crossing. Schuman will perform, “NY’s American Anthems: The Stories of Yankee Doodle, Take Me Out To The Ballgame, God Bless America, and More.” He is a winner of the Susquehanna Folk Festival Liars Contest and the St. Louis Jewish Storytelling Contest and has been featured at The Northeast Storytelling Conference, Riverway Storytelling Festival, Caffè Lena, Proctors, Tellabration, and Limmud Boston. Schuman is also a member of the Story Circle of the Capital District, Northeast Storytelling, National Storytelling Network, Jewish Storytelling Coalition, and Lifetime Arts Creative Aging Roster who tells stories about songs and songwriters, personal adventures, historical sagas, folk tales, and stories in the Jewish storytelling tradition. He plays his theme song on a Jew’s harp and when you hear him play the guitar, you’ll know why he calls himself a storyteller. Not Just for Kids Storytelling will be held outside, under a tent near the Visitor Center, 129Schoharie Street, Fort Hunter, NY 12069. We encourage you to bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket to sit on. If raining, limited seating is available inside the Visitor Center. The program will also stream live on Facebook. FARMERS MARKET: The Mechanicville Library, located at 190 N. Main St. Mechanicville, will be holding its 2021 Farmers Market on Mondays from 4pm — 7pm from June — September. This producers market will feature vegetables, fruits, meats, eggs, handmade items, and entrepreneurs. Limited free space is still available to our local producers. Tuesday, Aug. 31 FOSTER PARENT MEETING:
A Foster Parent Information Meeting will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 31 at 4 p.m. at the Department of Social Services Building, located at 152West High Street, Ballston Spa. The next certification class will begin on Sept. 16, 2021 at 5 p.m. The department is in need of foster parents who are willing to foster infants, teens and sibling groups. NATURE CRAFT HOURS:

Park is continuing to host Nature Craft Hours under the pavilion at Camp Saratoga every Tuesday throughout August and September! This program runs from 4:00pm-5:00pm and is geared for children of all ages. Each Tuesday will feature a different and creative nature-themed arts project. Activities are TBA but have included sun prints, natural tie dye, seed medallions and more! Please note, there is a craft supply fee of $3per participant. Participants should park in Parking Lot #1 located on Scout Road directly across the street from the pavilion. Registration is required. Space is limited. GUIDED MEDITATION: The Troy Public Library will offer Meditation Classes on Tuesdays, July 13th — August 31st at 6:30PM. This program is free and open to the public. The Troy Public Library is located at 100 Second Street, Troy. Spend an hour discovering how to easily meditate, de-stress, and gain a better handle on attention and emotions. Most find the experience simpler and more beneficial than expected. Learn with stress management coach Michael Fuselli with more than 35 years of experience. Beginners are always welcome. Registration is required. This program will be presented using Zoom. Joining the presentation will require the installation of the Zoom client on your computer (microphone and speakers required for audio, camera for video) or the Zoom app on your mobile device. KWVA MEETING: The September meeting of Korean War Veterans Assoc., will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2, at the VFW home in Saratoga Springs, which is located at the end of Veterans’ Way, just off the arterial, North of Saratoga. Veterans who served anywhere during the Korean War, in Korea at any time, spouses, widows, relatives and friends are all invited to attend. Area Seniors will be temporarily holding meetings at the Fitness & Cycle Gym, next to China City in the Hannaford Plaza 15 Trieble Ave. Milton. Starting this summer, we will be resuming our weekly meetings on every Thursday of the month. Doors will open at 10 am, for the sales of 50⁄50, crafter sales, socializing and cards. At noon lunch, at 12:30 a General meeting will be held and Bingo will follow the meeting. On the second Thursday tickets will be on sale for $3 for the meal on the third Thursday. Or bring your own lunch on this day. All other Thursdays of the month bring your own lunch.
Friday, Sept. 3 POND EXPLORATION:
Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park’s popular Pond Exploration Programs will be running every Friday throughout August and September! Revolving around discovering aquatic wildlife at Delegan Pond, this scheduled reoccurring program is taking place every Friday from 10:30am-11:30am. Participants can use the dip nets that are provided to search for pond life, including frogs, salamanders, tadpoles, crayfish, and aquatic insects. Registration is required. Space is limited. FREE SUMMER MOVIES:
Free movies in Wiswall Park are back for the 14th summer in a row, presented by the Ballston Spa Business and Professional Association, as part of its First Friday activities. The series begins on June 4(rain date June 5) with “Trolls”. “The Croods” will be shown on July 2(rain date July 3), “Frozen 2” on August 6(rain date August 7) and “The Secret Life of Pets 2” on September 3 (rain date September 4). All films are family-friendly. The movies are projected onto the wall of the adjacent Front Street Deli building on Front Street in the village and begin at dusk (approximately 8:30-8:45 pm). All screenings are free. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. We will follow any continuing guidelines for safe public gatherings that may be in effect at the time of the event. These may include social distancing measures, face masks and limited capacity in the park for movie viewers.
