CDTA buses equipped with airpurification system to fight COVID
ALBANY, N.Y. » CDTA is continuing to take important steps to keep employees and customers safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In CDTA’s latest effort, all buses are now equipped with a commercial-grade air purification system that uses Photohydroionization® Cell (PHI-Cell®) technology to clean the air, the organization announced in a press release.
This technology — along with normal, daily deep clean disinfectant procedures — offers the highest quality of disinfectant for operators and passengers, the release said.
The device is made by United Safety and Survivability Corporation and is called Active Air Purification. This type of technology has been used in the medical community for decades. According to United Safety, the device eliminates over 99% germs, microbes, viruses, bacteria and volatile organic compounds in the air and on surfaces, including SARSCoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
Additionally, real-time occupancy data is now available on all fixed-route buses. Customers can check bus arrival times and view the vehicle capacity prior to boarding, with color-coded indicators: not crowded (blue), some crowding (yellow) or crowded (red). Customers can view this information on www.cdta.org.
Customers can also access contactless payment options with the Navigator mobile application that offers a variety of fare products, real-time schedule information and trip planning. Protective barriers were installed in the operator compartment during the summer of 2020 on all buses. The barriers are designed to protect operators and improve the safety and security of the entire system. This equipment is used at transit systems throughout the country.
All customers are required to wear a mask while riding with CDTA as part of the federal mask mandate in order to keep customers, operators and the public safe from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Furthermore, CDTA joined the American Public Transportation Association’s Health and Safety Commitments Program, the public transportation industry’s overarching pledge to passengers that public transit systems are taking all the necessary measures to operate safely as the nation recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
