Grand Cherokee brings the family together

- By Marc Grasso

Family is always first priority

Clearly when it comes to family, there is a special place in your heart. But in the context of vehicles, family is a checkbox that has to be recognized in the car-buying experience. Whether it is needed for the space or the room, or moving kids to college, or even having a vehicle big enough for when they come to town for holidays and events. In the same context, there are vehicles that just do the job or are specifically designed around those needs.

In Grasso’s Garage this week, it’s all about Jeep and making those needs possible with their stunning Jeep Grand Cherokee L Summit Reserve 4X4.

In typical Fiat Chrysler Automobiles fashion, they really do paint colors well, on our tester, a Velvet Red Pearl exterior, and it’s beautiful to say the least. Riding on 21-inch all-season tires, the Grand Cherokee L really is very comfortable. Off to dinner six of us go for a nice Italian meal. We loaded up and what a spacious ride the Grand Cherokee L was. Boasting night vision, a 19-speaker McIntosh stereo system and Palermo leather seats, the famous name plate that has grown 15.1 inches longer than the Grand Cherokee and is actually almost an inch longer than the Tahoe.

Its six trim levels bring tons of options for consumers. In typical Jeep fashion, these options are endless. Have you ever built a Wrangler online? It’s a process in hopes of consumers making their upcoming purchase exactly what they want. Luxuries on our tester include power rear liftgate, automatic high beams, remote start, etc.

“Jeep’s response to the growing interest in threerow, midsize SUVs is the Grand Cherokee L,” said Karl Brauer, executive analyst for iSeecars.com. “This longer-wheelbase version of the highly successful Grand Cherokee retains all the key traits that have served the model so well for decades, including attractive styling, advanced technology, a plush interior, and some of the best off-road capability available in today’s market.

“The Grand Cherokee L blends these traits together as effectively as anything in the competitive midsize SUV segment, making it a desirable option for a wide variety of buyers. And the breadth of Grand Cherokee L trim levels, drivetrains, and features makes it a viable choice for a wide range of consumer budgets.”

On the interior, the Grand Cherokee L is basically that same as our recently tested Grand Cherokee earlier this year. It has the UConnect 5 10.1 inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, multiple cameras, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities while utilizing SiriusXM radio. I have said it before and will reconfirm it, the UConnect infotainment system is the best in the business. It’s easy to use, it’s fun to operate and very convenient. Did I mention massaging seats? Yes it has that too!

As a family vehicle, this is riding in style and a great competitor for the Chevrolet Tahoe Premier or High Country, but for a nicely sized reduced price. Boasting grandish styles, the seven-passenger Grand Cherokee L kicks the competition easily and brings a nicely designed exterior.
