Career Center announces virtual workshops
The Saratoga County Career Center, in conjunction with the Greater Capital Region Career Centers, will hold a series of free virtual career workshops in August as part of the WorkPays! workforce education campaign.
A Resume Development workshop at 10 a.m. on Aug. 3 will present the basics of a powerful and effective cover letter including formatting, tailoring to the job and getting through the online application process to land an interview. Attendees are asked to have a rough draft of their resume for the workshop.
A Transferable Skills workshop will be held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 2. Transferable skills are qualities a candidate has already acquired that can be used in a different job. Participants will learn how to make employers see the connection between their qualities and the skillset needed to do the job and market themselves as the solution to an employer’s problem.
An Interview Preparation workshop is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 9, when attendees will learn how to articulate their strengths, what questions to expect, how to address difficult topics and ace the interviewing process.
A Goal Setting workshop at 10 a.m.on Aug. 10 will explore how goal setting works, why goals are important and provide helpful resources to get each participant started to reach their dreams.
A workshop titled Completing Job Applications will take place at 11 a.m. on Aug. 18. Statistics show approximately 50% of mid-sized companies and almost all large corporations use an applicant tracking system to screen candidates for job opportunities. Attendees will learn how to prepare an online application to get the most visibility from hiring managers.
A Social Media workshop at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 25 will focus on how one’s social media presence can make or break their ability to find a job. Participants will learn how to use social media to their advantage in searching for a job and marketing themselves to land the job or career they’ve always wanted.
The final workshop of the month, Overcoming Barriers, will be offered at 11 a.m. on Aug. 30. Attendees can join an informal discussion about how to overcome potential stumbling blocks to finding a job. Whether it’s facing transportation needs, childcare needs, prior justice system involvement, inexperience, health concerns or more, this workshop will provide all with resources and strategies to help you meet their goals.
Registration is required for all workshops. Anyone interested can visit https://thejoblink.org/calendar/ to register or call the Saratoga County Career Center at (518) 884-4170 for more information.
