Tang presents ‘Signed Sculptures’ Family Saturday
The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College has announced the next event in its Family Saturday series.
Family Saturday: “Signed Sculptures” will be on March 4, beginning at 2 pm. The program, suitable for children 5 and older accompanied by an adult, begins with viewing works in the recently opened
exhibition “Christine Sun Kim: Oh Me Oh My.” Kim’s art engages with different modes of visual communication, including American Sign Language (ASL), which is her first language. After viewing the exhibit, participants will use construction-paper cutouts of their own hands to create ASLinspired sculptures.
Family Saturdays aim to foster multigenerational creative cooperation through looking at artwork, discussing it, and engaging
in a hands-on art-making activity.
The program runs from 2 to 3:30 pm and is free and open to the public. No registration required. Supplies are provided on a first-come, first-served basis. In accordance with guidance from Saratoga County, the CDC, and Skidmore College, the program is mask optional, and participants are welcome to wear masks should they wish.
Also of note: following this
Family Saturday, Christine Sun Kim will give a public talk at 4 pm at the museum. The talk is free and open to the public. The program will include ASL interpretation by Denise Kahler-Braaten and Beth Staehle. A reception follows.
Family Saturdays continue April 1, 15, 29, and May 13. For more information, visit the Tang website at https://tang. skidmore.edu or contact the Tang Visitors Services Desk at (518) 580-8080.
