Upton Coffee Company set to open later this year
STILLWATER, N.Y. >> A new coffee shop called Upton Coffee Company is slated to open later this year in southern Saratoga County.
The business will be located at 751 Hudson Ave. in the historic Village of Stillwater.
Upton Coffee Company is being founded by Stillwater resident Jeffrey Miller of JEM Properties LLC. Miller unveiled his plans for the coffee shop to the Village Board of Trustees in February.
In addition to being the owner and operator of Upton Coffee Company, Miller owns the entire 10-unit building where it is located. “When I bought the building in 2019, when I walked through it the very first thing I said was this would be a great spot for a coffee shop,” he said.
“It’s been something I’ve always wanted to do,” the coffee-lover continued. “I’m one of those guys that whenever we go on vacation, the first thing I do is find the local coffee shop and I go check it out.”
The law office of Pamela L. Moore, which previously occupied the storefront, plans to move to a new location near Stillwater Central School, according to a Facebook post by the Village of Stillwater, making way for the debut of Upton Coffee Company
An application to remodel the storefront was recently approved by the local government, and Upton Coffee Company is anticipated to open in June, following a months-long renovation.
The company name is historically significant, Miller said, sharing that Upton was the original name of the Village of Stillwater, dating back to 1780. “Upton Coffee Company will be a reflection of the history of Stillwater and a place where locals can have a great cup of coffee,” he said. “With a comfortable environment, quality products, and great people — Upton Coffee is what our village needs. It will be a place for the community gather, relax and enjoy good conversation.”
The business plans to sell hot and iced coffee, espresso and lattes, along with a selection of pastries. “We’re kind of sticking to the traditional coffee concept,” said Miller, who also plans to develop a merchandise line of shirts, hats and mugs.
Upton Coffee Company will offer takeout and indoor seating with tables, chairs and couches as well as outdoor seating during warm seasons.
Over the next few months, the unit will be completely remodeled with new flooring, ceiling, glass counters, lighting, plumbing and signage. “We’re going to fully renovate the space,” Miller said.
The owner plans to film the remodeling process and share the journey on Facebook to give viewers a firsthand look into what it takes to open a business.
