NPCC offers human resource program

- JAY BELL

Registration is now open at the University of Arkansas Global Campus for a 12- session program available through National Park Community College for human resource professionals.

The program is for human resource professionals who are preparing for certification exams, or seeking to enhance their skills and knowledge.

The course is offered in partnership with the Society for Human Resource Management Learning System. Sessions will be offered from 4: 30- 7: 30 p. m. Thursdays, Feb. 21 through May 9, live online or in classrooms in Rogers, Harrison and Hot Springs. Online registration is available at Global Campus.

“It’s just another way that we partner with a four- year university,” said Jill Johnson, NPCC director of community relations.

It is not the first time that NPCC has coordinated with Judith Tavano at Arkansas for a training program, but it is the first time for hosting the class using Blackboard Collaborate.

Blackboard Collaborate users can create virtual collaborative spaces such as an online course session, office hours or a committee meeting. Instructions and

recorded demonstrations for participants and moderators are made available at the Blackboard Collaborate On- Demand Learning Center.

There are 28 face- to- face seats available at National Park. NPCC will provide teach support in the classroom. Students have the option of logging on at home or going to the classroom.

Tavano wanted to offer the course in a classroom because she said pass rates for certification exams are higher when students learn and work together in a group.

Participants will be able to increase their knowledge of the field of human resources and receive current reference of human resource practices, including updates on current policies and legislation. The program has a measurable track record of success for those qualified to sit for the exam.

“It will be a benefit,” Johnson said. “Anyone who is in the human resource field needs to have this knowledge.”

Johnson said most students in the class are already working in the field. The course offers the students continuing education and job training as they aim to earn a certification.

The course cost of $ 1,200 includes 12 class sessions, the Learning System books, access to Blackboard Collaborate, an unlimited number of practice tests on http:// www. learnhrm. com, and all recorded sessions. The course investment does not cover registration for certification exams.

Students will learn from industry experts, gain access to web resources and mobile applications, learn in a structured learning environment and have the opportunity to build a peer network.
