Locally grown at a lower price
With reduced costs and membership incentives, Spa City Co- op makes healthy eating even more rewarding. Annual membership is now only $ 15 a year and even less when members choose from a variety of volunteer opportunities.
An online farmer’s market, the co- op features sustainably grown, pesticide- free foods, produced by local farmers and purveyors. Market items include farm- fresh fruits and vegetables, hormone- free meats and eggs, preservative- free baked goods, herbal teas, natural remedies and more. z
The online market is open every other week with convenient pick- ups at Emergent Arts, 314 Whittington Ave., in the Dryden Pottery building. The market will be open from 9 a. m. today until 9 p. m. Tuesday. Orders will be available for pick up from 3: 30- 5: 30 p. m. Friday.
“Co- op members enjoy the benefits healthy eating while supporting their local economy and decreasing their carbon footprint,” said Denise Marion, market manager, in the press release. “And now they can enjoy it all for only $ 15 a year — or less when they sign up to volunteer with the co- op.”
Volunteers receive two free months of co- op membership, plus a $ 5 Wal- Mart gift card when they work a full shift ( 25: 30 p. m.) on one of the pick- up days.
“Members who volunteer six times in one year get membership free for the following year,” said Karen Holcomb, market manager. “It’s fun and it’s a great way to give back to the community while meeting like- minded people who share an interest in living a healthy, sustainable lifestyle.”
The co- op has no paid positions and relies exclusively on volunteers. Volunteers are needed each pick- up day. Additional volunteer opportunities include promotion, community eduction, vendor outreach, volunteer coordination and event planning.
