The importance of water
Dear editor:
On Thursday night, about 10: 30, we discovered that we were without water. The Hot Springs Municipal customer emergency operator knew our area and reported that the crew was repairing a water main in the Rock Creek vicinity. At about 6: 30 the next morning, we awoke to a sputtering water system in the house. We had water!
First, thank you to the Hot Springs water department for being alert and attentive to a problem before it developed into a worse problem. The repair crew deserves special thanks and gratitude for being on call late at night, working in the dark, to repair a water main problem. Our discomfort was only slight because of their efforts. Their work had to be in uncomfortable and dangerous conditions in the middle of the night. Thank you!
Second, without water, we were inconvenienced, but during those waterless hours, we were intensely reminded that conserving our water now is important to our having a future with sufficient water resources. If each household were more aware of the water we waste on a daily basis and if all of us conserved — just a bit! — we could make a huge difference.
Third, thank you to the Hot Springs Board of Directors and David Watkins for moving ahead quickly and efficiently in the procurement of water rights from DeGray Lake for our future water resource as our needs grow. Thank you! Hot Springs is a terrific place to live! Barbara Thexton
