Guadron named ADG’s top soccer player

Erick Guadron continues to make a name for himself at Hot Springs High.

Sophomore Guadron was named the Arkansas DemocratGa­zette’s All- Arkansas Preps boys soccer outstandin­g player of the year on Thursday, earning his first statewide honor after twice being named all- state in his career.

Guadron finished this season with 87 career goals after scoring 39 this season, breaking the old state record with 48 as a freshman. His 2014 total was second in the state.

The Trojans have also reached the Class 5A semifinals in each of his first two years.

Hot Springs Legion splits DH with Bryant

BRYANT — Jared Austin and Korey Wasson combined to drive in nine runs as Hot Springs pounded Bryant 16- 8 here Tuesday in the first game of an American Legion Class AA doublehead­er.

With Hot Springs mostly using younger players, Bryant won the nightcap 8- 4.

In the first game, Hot Springs ( 2- 2) scored all but one of its runs in the last four innings to erase a six- run deficit. The visitors, with players from multiple high schools, pulled to 7- 6 with three in the fourth and two in the fifth before going ahead with five in the sixth. They added five in the seventh.

Hot Springs High incoming junior Ethan O’Riley had three hits, including a triple and a double, and pitched five innings after relieving Wasson ( Fountain Lake) in the third. O’Riley ( 2- 0) allowed three runs and had six strikeouts.

Austin ( Poyen) had five RBI and Wasson four. Both had two hits, Wasson’s both doubles, as did Brandon Stovall ( Sheridan), Brian Rosburg and Max Harris. Stovall drove in two runs and O’Riley and Rosburg one each.

In the second game, Bryant took advantage of Hot Springs errors to score six runs in the first two innings, then added single runs in the third and fourth. Hot Springs scored twice in the first and second.

Wasson ( 0- 1) pitched the first four innings, Walker Glisson working the last two.

Hot Springs plays Wednesday at Morrilton, then in the UALR tournament June 13 and 14 at Arkansas Baptist and Little Rock Christian.
