August activities at Garland County Library

The Garland County Library, 427 Malvern Ave., will hold a number of events during the month of August.

Beginning Tai Chi and Qugong will be held at 10 a.m. each Monday in August, led by instructor Jerry Matlock. The class is intended for adults of any fitness level. No registrati­on is required.

Movie matinees will be offered at 1:30 p.m. most Sundays featuring mostly newer releases. Movies are geared toward adults, and ratings vary. There is no cost for admission, and free popcorn is available. The August movie schedule is: Aug. 7 — “Everybody Wants Some,” released 2016, rated R. Aug. 21 — “10 Cloverfiel­d Lane,” released 2016, rated PG-13. Aug. 28 — “The Finest Hours,” released 2016, rated PG-13. Beverly Salisbury, Hot Springs Village resident, will lead a program on author Margaret Mitchell and her classic book “Gone With the Wind” at 2 p.m. Aug. 13. The program will focus on the book and Mitchell’s life, and is intended for anyone who is interested in the book, the author, or Civil War-era literature. Registrati­on is required.

Drew Bradbury, co-owner of A Living Pantry and part-time library clerk, will lead the seminar “Seed Saving with the Seed Library” at 1 p.m. Aug. 14. Bradbury will focus on best practices for saving plant seeds, promote the Seed Library and Garland County Grows. The program is meant for anyone interested in gardening. Registrati­on is required.

The Garland County Historical Society lecture “The Army and Navy Hospital” will be presented at 2 p.m. Aug. 17 by volunteer Gary Jackson. Registrati­on is required.

The Computer Club of Hot Springs Village will continue its monthly technology programs with “Windows 10 Basics” at 2 p.m. Aug. 26. The class is designed for computer users who have recently upgraded to Windows 10, or who are considerin­g upgrading. Registrati­on is required.

Color Me Wednesday is scheduled for 1 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month. Adults come together for coloring pages and puzzles as a time to relax and de-stress.

Craft Club meets one Thursday per month to learn a new craft. All materials provided. Registrati­on is required due to limited supplies. The craft for each month can be found on the library’s website.

The Sleuthers Mystery Book Club reads mysteries and meets one Saturday per month. The Young @ Heart Book Club is for adults who like to read teen books. It meets one Thursday per month. The Interestin­g Book Club reads “interestin­g” books of multiple genres and meets one Tuesday per month.
