A former nurse at a local retirement facility was arrested Thursday for allegedly stealing jewelry from a resident’s apartment earlier this month.

Latosha Lashell Urquhart, 30, of 904 Cones Road, was taken into custody at her residence shortly after 2 p.m. and charged with felony counts of residential burglary, punishable by up to 20 years in prison, and theft of property more than $1,000, punishable by up to six years.

She remained in custody Friday in lieu of $7,500 bond and is set to appear Aug. 2 in Garland County District Court.

According to the affidavit, the victim, 86, reported a theft of jewelry from her apartment that occurred sometime between July 4 and July 19. Hot Springs police Detective Paul Allen obtained a copy of a list of employees at the facility and checked the names against the list in Leads Online to see if any of the employees had recently sold some jewelry.

A nurse, identified as Urquhart, who reportedly had access to the victim’s room, had sold jewelry to a local pawnshop that matched the description of the stolen jewelry given by the victim.

The jewelry included a man’s gold wedding ring with diamonds, valued at $600, a matching woman’s gold wedding ring with diamonds, also valued at $600, and a gold chain with a “black hills gold” cross pendant, valued at $1,800.

Allen showed photographs of the items that had been pawned to the victim and she reportedly confirmed they were the pieces taken from her apartment. Allen also obtained a copy of the pawn ticket allegedly signed by Urquhart.
