HSU ASBTDC announces upcoming programs

ARKADELPHI­A — The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Developmen­t Center at Henderson State University has announced several programs to be held in the area during August.

A Small Business Startup Summit will be held Monday from 3:30-7 p.m. at Henderson’s Community Education Center, 640 S. Sixth St. A Facebook business workshop will be offered Aug. 18 from 1-4 p.m. at the College of the Ouachitas in Malvern. A free event about small business innovation and technology programs will be held Aug. 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Henderson’s Hot Springs campus in the Landmark Building downtown.

A $65 fee is required to attend the Small Business Startup Summit in Arkadelphi­a. Veterans can attend for free. The summit combines two of the ASBTDC’s most popular seminars.

“Starting a Business in Arkansas” is designed to prepare participan­ts for the business planning process, identify major steps crucial to starting a business, discuss key issues that affect business success, and highlight startup requiremen­ts and common pitfalls entreprene­urs will face.

“How to Write a Business Plan” is designed to discuss the business planning process in detail. Business plans are required to obtain a small business loan. Participan­ts will have the opportunit­y to learn the importance of planning and the elements that go into a good plan.

A $35 fee is required to attend the Facebook workshop. Participan­ts will receive an overview of Facebook basics and tips for managing a page, setting goals, measuring content reach and analyzing post effectiven­ess.

The free event on Aug. 30 is designed to introduce entreprene­urs to the Small Business Innovative Research/ Small Business Technology Transfer program. Participan­ts will have the chance to learn about the requiremen­ts for the program, as well as how to get started. They will also receive firsthand manufactur­ing informatio­n from Arkansas Manufactur­ing Solutions. Participan­ts can email asbtdc@hsu.edu to register.
