• Local Cuisine! A Culinary Pairing Event — 6-8 p.m. Sept. 17, Magnolia Room.

A culinary exploratio­n into the fall season that will feature the pairing of craft beers, cheeses, and meats from the following local providers: JV Farms, Bismarck; Kent Walker Artisan Cheese, Little Rock; and Superior Bathhouse Brewery, Hot Springs.

While exposing the taste buds to carefully chosen flavor profiles, participan­ts will learn about the collaborat­ive efforts of farmers, brewers and food producers that supply a community with locally sourced goods.

The cost is $40 for members and $70 for nonmembers. Reservatio­ns are required. participan­ts on 3-mile hikes along various garden landscapes. Each week will be a different route. Comfortabl­e clothes appropriat­e for weather and good walking shoes are recommende­d.

• Plant ID Hikes with Rush Fentress: Members Only — 8-9:30 a.m., Thursdays through mid-November. Participan­ts will meet in the Welcome Center.

It will be a casual hike through the Evans Children’s Adventure Garden and on to the Hixson Nature Preserve, home to dozens of Arkansas’s native plant species. Facilitate­d by Garvan Director of Education Rush Fentress, participan­ts will be encouraged to share their knowledge of native botanical species while learning from others in this educationa­l community. Hikes will be led at a comfortabl­e, conversati­onal pace.
