Hot Springs Civitans say ‘thank you’ to vets
Jackie and Jo West Taylor Davis are chairmen of the Hot Springs Civitan Club’s Committee to Honor Veterans. Under their leadership, the club began to collect and distribute “Veteran Thank You Bags.” The packages contain items which are donated by Civitan members such as toiletries, candy bars and energy bars. During this year alone, Hot Springs Civitan Club has collected and donated more than 500 bags to the local VA clinic for distribution.
The Hot Springs Civitan Club members have donated more than 300 volunteer hours working with Garland County Veterans Memorial and Military Park. On Memorial Day and Veterans Day, the club members assist with programs, handing out American flags, distributing wristbands to attendees, helping older veterans with seating locations and being goodwill ambassadors during the events. Members have assisted in the cleanup by power washing, mowing, gardening, etc., and staging for each event.
The mission of the Hot Springs Civitan Club is to build good citizenship by providing volunteers dedicated to serving individual and community needs, with an emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities. For more information on the club, call President Rita Blackwood at 501-617-2553.
