HSV Senior Services Expo to offer info on legal issues

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Attendees to the upcoming Hot Springs Village Senior Services Expo can find out about services and resources available, along with legal issues older residents might face.

The event is set for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 13 in the Coronado Community Center, 150 Ponderosa Lane.

At noon, attorney Karen Baim Reagler will speak during a breakout session on legal issues seniors face, including guardiansh­ip, Miller Trusts, and powers of attorney. Reagler will provide an overview of the topics, identify major issues for discussion and offer informatio­n on resources for further study.

A variety of exhibitors will have booths set up, including Alzheimer’s Arkansas, Area Agency on Aging, AARP’s driving and tax aid services, Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care, Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, Arkansas Legal Services, Arkansas Library Services for the blind and physically handicappe­d, Oaklawn Center on Aging, SCAT, and The Caring Place.

A representa­tive from the Arkansas Attorney General’s office will offer informatio­n on scams that target seniors, and staff members from Community Counseling Services, Genesis, the Hot Springs Village Property Owners Associatio­n, HSV fire and police department­s, lifeline systems, Lions Eye Bank and Laboratory, Loan Closet, DHS, SHIIP/Medicare, Social Security, Veterans Services, FOCUS, and World Services for the Blind will be on hand to provide informatio­n.

The expo’s main goal is to assist seniors with an awareness of, education about and access to services and resources that are primarily free to the recipient. Although targeting the needs of seniors, those of all ages are welcome to attend.
