HSV Senior Services Expo to offer info on legal issues
HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Attendees to the upcoming Hot Springs Village Senior Services Expo can find out about services and resources available, along with legal issues older residents might face.
The event is set for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 13 in the Coronado Community Center, 150 Ponderosa Lane.
At noon, attorney Karen Baim Reagler will speak during a breakout session on legal issues seniors face, including guardianship, Miller Trusts, and powers of attorney. Reagler will provide an overview of the topics, identify major issues for discussion and offer information on resources for further study.
A variety of exhibitors will have booths set up, including Alzheimer’s Arkansas, Area Agency on Aging, AARP’s driving and tax aid services, Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care, Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, Arkansas Legal Services, Arkansas Library Services for the blind and physically handicapped, Oaklawn Center on Aging, SCAT, and The Caring Place.
A representative from the Arkansas Attorney General’s office will offer information on scams that target seniors, and staff members from Community Counseling Services, Genesis, the Hot Springs Village Property Owners Association, HSV fire and police departments, lifeline systems, Lions Eye Bank and Laboratory, Loan Closet, DHS, SHIIP/Medicare, Social Security, Veterans Services, FOCUS, and World Services for the Blind will be on hand to provide information.
The expo’s main goal is to assist seniors with an awareness of, education about and access to services and resources that are primarily free to the recipient. Although targeting the needs of seniors, those of all ages are welcome to attend.
Preregistration is required only for seniors who wish to receive a free box lunch. Contact Valerie Mettler by Sept. 30 at 501-922-4231, or by email to vmettler@hsvpoa.org.
