Jessieville flattens Bismarck early, 51-12
JESSIEVILLE — The final score was a more accurate indicator of Jessieville’s 51-12 victory over Bismarck Friday night than the stat sheet.
Bismarck was only outgained 79 yards (224-145) in a game it trailed 37-0 midway through the first quarter. Jessieville returned a fumble and an interception for first-half touchdowns, the 44-0 halftime score allowing the last two periods to be played with a continuously running clock.
Jessieville is 3-1 after its second-straight breather at Phillips Field, beating Two Rivers 47-0 in a weather-shortened game Sept. 16. The schedule toughens for the Lions with games Friday at Glen Rose and Oct. 7 against visiting Haskell Harmony Grove, both highly ranked in Class 3A.
Bismarck dropped to 0-4 with Harmony Grove at home and Glen Rose away the next two weeks.
Jessieville scored a safety in the first two minutes and led Bismarck 23-0 after 4:32 of clock time. Colton Ault ran 16 yards for a touchdown and Adam Saveall passed 70 yards to Ruben de Haas for another. Bismarck fumbled on the kickoff after de Haas’ touchdown, Drew Galloway returning 30 yards for another Jessieville score.
Saveall passed six yards to Steven Benson for a 30-0 lead and Kaleb Moody’s 23-yard run interception return made it 37-0 with only 6:22 off the clock. Dylan Wright’s one-yard plunge with 8:32 left in the second quarter made it 44-0.
Jordan Webb passed 35 yards to Braden Gill for Bismarck’s first touchdown, and Zaine Umer burst 85 yards with 3:04 left in the game to set the final margin. Jessieville went up 51-6 on a 17-yard run by Edwin Kaczynski with 4:44 remaining.
Ault carried seven times for 69 of Jessieville’s 148 land yards, Saveall completing both pass attempts for 76 yards.
