Wanda Jean Hannah Srygley came into the world on Dec. 30, 1926, and departed to join the Lord on Sept. 23, 2016.

She devoted her long and full life to God, her family and her many treasured friends. Wanda’s enthusiasm for life was fueled by her fierce intelligence, sharp wit and incredible generosity. She had an enduring love for her husband of 44 years, William “Bill” Srygley, that extended beyond his passing in 1989, and we know she is now reunited with him in heaven. Wanda was an avid reader, supporter of the arts, passionate racehorse owner and sports fan, especially committed to all of “her kids” and coaches at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith. She knew how to tell a great story, hosted wonderfully large dinner parties and family gatherings, baked the best pies, and had an amazing sense of style.

A member of Goddard United Methodist Church since the age of six, much of her life was dedicated to acts of service, faithful church and Sunday school attendance, and reading the Bible. She enjoyed time with each member of her large family, loved her four children; one daughter, Jeannie and husband Ed Sutton of Holiday Island; three sons, Bill and wife Sherry Srygley of Russellville, Bob and wife Jenny Srygley of Fayetteville and Rick and wife Tracy Srygley of Fort Smith; twenty grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren, abundantly, and was so proud of each one. Wanda was the vivacious matriarch of our family, and we will forever feel her earthly absence. She was the strongest person many of us will ever have the privilege of knowing. If you were lucky enough to be her friend, you already know that her word was her bond, and she was always there to help in every possible way.

Wanda adored music, and planned her own funeral ceremony which will include her most cherished hymns. “It will be all music,” she often said of her service.

Following a private burial, this memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, at Goddard United Methodist Church under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.

The body may be viewed beginning Monday until 10 a.m. Thursday.

Wanda Srygley’s legacy will live on in all of the countless individuals and organizations she supported with her unwavering generosity and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Goddard United Methodist Church food pantry, 1922 Dodson Avenue, Fort Smith, AR 72901 and University of Arkansas Fort Smith (UAFS) Srygley Scholarship fund, 5210 Grand Avenue, Fort Smith, AR 72913.

Sandra Lou Stockwell, 69, of Hot Springs, went to be with her Lord and Savior in Israel, Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016.

She was born on Aug. 25, 1947, in Denver, Colo., the daughter of Shirley and Willa Mae Bates Richardson.

On Jan. 26, 1963, she married William Stockwell who preceded her in death after 51 years of marriage. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Lee Richardson; and one sister, Ann Truitt.

Sandra was on a trip to Israel with her granddaughter, Katie, to walk where Jesus walked. She was baptized in the Jordan River where Jesus was baptized and two hours later she was in her Lord’s presence. The following is Katie’s blog: Today I was baptized in the Jordan River, here in Tiberias, Israel, linked arm to arm with my grandmother! We were baptized and made new together today, in the same river Jesus, Himself, was baptized in! God spoke to Jesus when he came up from the water, speaking affirmation of His obedience, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” God was so pleased with my grandmother’s obedience, that He decided He needed her in heaven with Him! Right now, my grandmother is dancing at the feet of Jesus! Her body has been restored by His healing hands! She is praising my Savior alongside my grandfather! They are united again through Christ! We thank God for this abundant blessing! In the Jewish culture, those near their death bed travel to Israel to pass. It is considered a great honor to pass in God’s Holy Land! My family rejoices in knowing she passed so honorably! This is all a part of God’s plan and we will continue to walk by the guidance of His ordered steps!

Sandra was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Hot Springs.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Sharon Stockwell of Hot Springs; her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Kenneth Boughan of Hot Springs; her four grandchildren, Tyler and Sydnee Boughan, Brittney Stockwell, William and Mary Stockwell, Katie and Bonner Brown; six great-grandchildren, Austin, Liam, Gabriel, Noah, Anna and Brayden; her sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Curt Shoemaker of Hot Springs; nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
