Grandmother charged with battery

- Sheriff’s files

A reportedly homeless woman was charged with battery on Saturday after allegedly assaulting the mother of her grandchildren as they watched.

Edna Elizabeth Estell, 46, who lists a city streets address, was taken into custody shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday and was charged with third-degree domestic battery, a felony punishable up to six years in prison. She remained in custody Monday in lieu of $2,500 bond and is set to appear Oct. 31 in Garland County District Court.

According to the affidavit, the alleged victim said Estell, her children’s grandmother, came to her Narrow Lane residence at around 8:40 p.m. Sept. 13, allegedly smelling of alcohol, and told the victim she was tired of how the victim was treating her son, the children’s father. She then pushed the victim into her residence and the victim pushed her back onto the front porch. Estell grabbed her by the hair and started punching her in the face while yelling she was going to kill her.

The children were reportedly present at the time of the assault and one child ran to a neighbor’s house to get help. The neighbor came to the victim’s residence and helped get Estell away from the victim. The victim went to the neighbor’s house to get away from Estell while Estell yelled at her that she would see the victim again.

The affidavit noted that Estell was convicted in July of 2012 for third-degree domestic battery.
