Courthouse ‘thanks’

-

Dear editor:

Once again the holiday season is upon us. The downtown area, homes and businesses are putting on their holiday best and getting into the spirit of Christmas and of the other holidays that are celebrated this time of year. The lights downtown are beautiful, including the 100-plus-year-old Garland County Court House at 501 Ouachita Ave.

While the Friends of the Garland County Courthouse have recently taken on the primary responsibilities of planning the annual courthouse lighting event and paying for replacement lighting, the county grounds staff must be given the credit for the beautiful Christmas lights that adorn the historic courthouse and grounds. I want to commend and acknowledge the hard work every year of J.D., Barbara, Mitch, Floyd and others. This group of county employees take great pride in the appearance of the courthouse and buildings all year, but especially at Christmas. Please remember to thank these hardworking folks.

This holiday season, please take the time to walk or drive through the downtown area and especially the courthouse. Nothing like beautiful Christmas lights to put you into the holiday spirit.

I will also add that we still have a few limited edition courthouse Christmas ornaments available for purchase. Friends of the Garland County Courthouse hopes everyone’s Thanksgiving was a time of thoughtful reflection and extend our wishes to all for a very merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Joyous Kwanzaa, and a Happy New Year.
