LLI event offers history of hospital
Arkansas Career Training Institute welcomed 55 residents of Hot Springs Village Nov. 3 for an information event about the history of the former Army and Navy General Hospital in downtown Hot Springs.
Attendees learned about the historic building in which ACTI is now housed. Gary Jackson presented information about the building with photographs of the campus and two other hospital buildings.
Members of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s Benton Center Lifelong Learning Institute received lunch and a tour of the facility. The Learning Institute will offer a community course Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. outlining the history and role of Hot Springs in World War II.
The program will be presented by Liz Robbins, executive director of the Garland County Historical Society, and sponsored by Dennis Berry and Susan Siegel, of Morgan Stanley. Learning Institute members may attend for free and are welcome to bring prospective members as guests for free. Tickets are available for $20 each for nonmembers.
The Learning Institute offers educational opportunities to members who wish to increase their knowledge and offer solutions for issues in society. Membership allows residents to attend enrichment course throughout the year and receive discounts on UALR bookstore and athletics, as well as access to the UALR library and Rhodes scholars program.
