Woman charged with stealing dog, other items

- STEVEN MROSS

A local woman was arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges early Wednesday after allegedly breaking into an apartment where the residents were sleeping and fleeing with the family’s dog and other items.

Sharie Michelle Robinson, 27, who lists a Seventh Street address, was taken into custody shortly after 7:30 a.m. and charged with felony counts of residential burglary, punishable by up to 20 years in prison, aggravated assault and theft of property more than $1,000, each punishable by up to six years, and a misdemeanor count of obstructing government operations, punishable by up to one year in jail.

Robinson, who had a parole hold on her for absconding, remained in custody Thursday in lieu of bonds totaling $10,500 and is set to appear Jan. 31 in Garland County District Court.

According to the affidavit, shortly before 7:30 a.m., Hot Springs police officers responded to a residence in the 800 block of Woodlawn Avenue to a burglary that had just occurred where the suspect was described as a shoeless white female wearing a gray jacket, dark pants and red socks.

Officer Jason Greene located the female victim, 24, at the corner of Woodlawn and Richard Street pulling a large brown bull mastiff dog by its collar back toward her residence. The woman pointed toward McKay Street and yelled that the suspect had just run into the backyard of a residence in the 500 block there.

Officers ran after the suspect and were able to take her into custody. She allegedly gave them a false name and date of birth at first, but was later identified as Robinson. The victim was brought to the scene and identified Robinson as the one who had broken into her apartment.

The victim said her brother-in-law was asleep in her residence when he was awakened suddenly by an unknown woman standing over him in the bedroom. He told her to go into the living room where the victim was sleeping on a recliner.

The victim jumped out her chair and ran upstairs to her neighbors’ apartment for help. When she returned downstairs, she discovered the suspect had taken her cellphone, wallet and her dog and fled. The victim and her brother-in-law ran outside to chase the suspect.

A female witness said she saw the suspect flee from the apartment with the dog headed south on Richard where she attempted to cut through a fenced backyard, but couldn’t get inside. The suspect then ran back toward Woodlawn, but was now carrying a large metal pipe.

The victim advanced toward the suspect and yelled at her to release her dog. The suspect then allegedly swung the pipe at the victim and yelled she was going to kill her. After a short standoff, the suspect released the dog and ran toward the yard on McKay where she was trying again to get in when the officers arrived.
