Man arrested for allegedly attacking wife
A Pearcy man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly attacking his wife, reportedly choking her until she was unconscious at one point.
James Shannon Ketchum, 46, of 1530 Pearcy Road, was taken into custody at his residence just after 5:45 p.m. and charged with third-degree domestic battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail. He remained in custody Wednesday in lieu of zero bond and is set to appear April 10 in Garland County District Court.
According to the affidavit, shortly after 3:30 p.m., Garland County Sheriff’s Deputies Charles DeLaHunt and Aaron Bowerman were dispatched to a domestic disturbance in progress at the residence where a woman reported being struck several times in the head by her husband.
While en route to the residence, the woman reported her husband was armed with a loaded
weapon and had fled the scene in a silver Ford pickup.
DeLaHunt arrived and made contact with the victim, noting she was fearful and upset and told him her husband, identified as Ketchum, had attacked her.
She said she and Ketchum went for a ride in his vehicle toward Bonnerdale and Ketchum became upset, grabbing her by the hair and slamming her head into the vehicle’s dashboard. When she asked him to let her out of the vehicle, she said he became more upset.
The victim said she and Ketchum returned to the residence, and her son saw them as she tried to exit the vehicle. Ketchum then drove away from the residence with her still in the vehicle.
The victim said Ketchum drove her to an unknown location off a dirt road, where he grabbed her by the top of the head, pulled her out of the vehicle and attacked her again. She alleged Ketchum then choked her, causing her to lose consciousness. He eventually put her back in the vehicle and returned to the residence, where her son and another person confronted him prompting Ketchum to leave in his vehicle.
DeLaHunt noted he observed swelling to the rear of the victim’s head, a little redness on her throat and a missing tooth on the top right side of her jaw. LifeNet was on the scene, but the report did not indicate if she was transported.
Ketchum returned to the residence while deputies were still on scene and was taken into custody.
