-

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Residents and visitors alike can enjoy the great spring weather and beautiful scenery by hiking or biking on one of the many nature trails within Hot Springs Village.

The following tips will help ensure a fun and safe experience while on the trails.

• Trail visitors should travel with a companion, or make sure someone knows where they are hiking. Everyone needs to know their limits, and always keep distance, direction and time in mind.

• People must take care to watch where they step, and be on the lookout for rocks, roots and other natural materials that may be along the paths. Be alert for slippery areas and take time while navigating to avoid tripping.

• Hikers and bikers should wear appropriate clothing for the trail conditions and season. Sunglasses and a hat or visor are advised, along with sunscreen.

• Outdoor enthusiasts must be weather wise, and keep an eye on current and predicted weather conditions.

• Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

• Always start out slowly, only gradually increasing in pace and distance traveled.

• Pets are welcome on Village trails, but must be leashed, cleaned up after and under positive control of the owner.

• Leave nature as it was originally found.

• Trash should always be carried out.

• An awareness of wildlife is important.

• There is a 15 mph speed limit for multipurpose trails.

• Pedestrians have the right of way.
