National Guard general visits DAR chapter

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The Akansa Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution will welcome the first woman promoted to general in the history of the Arkansas National Guard, Brig.

Gen. Tamhra L. Hutchins-Frye, at 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel at Good Samaritan Campus, Cortez Road, Hot Springs Village. Hutchins-Frye is director of Joint Staff, Joint Force Headquarte­rs, Arkansas National Guard located at Camp Joseph T. Robinson, North Little Rock. She is the state’s senior federal full-time National Guard management official.

Hutchins-Frye is not only an “airman” but an Arkansas native, a country girl from Lavaca. The public is welcome to meet and hear her story.

Extension Get Fit, formerly Strong Women and Strong Men, meets from 9-10 a.m. Monday-Thursday at Hot Springs Baptist Church. This is a research-based program offered through UofA Cooperativ­e Extension. Strength and core training is offered Tuesday and Thursday, and circuit and aerobic training Monday and Wednesday. Hot Springs Bicycle Associatio­n is a nonprofit organizati­on of cyclists and outdoor enthusiast­s that focuses on bicycle awareness and safety in Hot Springs. Members volunteer time to the maintenanc­e and beautifica­tion of bike accessible trail systems in Hot Springs and the surroundin­g area. Greater Hot Springs Beekeepers Associatio­n, of Hot Springs and the surroundin­g communitie­s, meets at 7 p.m. the last Thursday of the month at Lake Hamilton Church of the Nazarene, 200 Lockhaven Road, off Albert Pike Road. Members will hike 3 miles in Garvan Woodland Gardens on Saturday. This easy hike will be a good introducti­on to the club for potential new members.
