LLI program to feature state’s champion trees

-

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The UALR Benton Center Lifelong Learning Institute at Hot Springs Village will present the program “Seeing the Tree … Instead of the Forest” from

1:30-3 p.m. Tuesday in the Unitarian Universalist Village Church, 403 Barcelona Road.

Surviving nature and man, the champion trees of Arkansas are the largest of their species in the state, and their lives span hundreds of years. Hot Springs artist Linda Williams Palmer has researched, photographed and produced beautiful colored pencil drawings of these century old giants. Her art merges art, science and history, and that exhibit toured Arkansas from

2012 to 2016. For that effort, she was awarded Signature Status in 2006 by the Colored Pencil Society of America.

The LLI afternoon program will include a presentation about the adventures Palmer experienced while finding these trees, and the stories the owners and communities relayed to her about their trees, along with her photographs and drawings.

In addition, Palmer’s new book, “Champion Trees of Arkansas: An Artist’s Journey,” will be available for purchase, along with prints and cards.

The program is free for LLI members, and

$10 for non-members.

Call 501-860-6003 to make reservations.
