Henderson TV wins award at national conference

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

ARKADELPHIA — Henderson TV was awarded third place for Best Newscast in the Apple Awards national competition this winter.

The award was presented at the College Media Association Conference in New York March 14.

“The Apple Awards are given for excellence in journalism and production quality, and this particular episode of Henderson Today showcased both areas very well,” said Paul Glover, associate professor of Radio and TV at Henderson State University.

“The episode included a feature on the current state of the carry and conceal bill that has affected Arkansas’s college campuses. The staff went out and gathered sound bites from a professor, a parent and a student to provide differing public opinion on the issue.”

It marked the fifth year in a row HTV won an award at the conference.

The HTV production staff for the episode included Jacob Lankford, Elizabeth Lau, Randy Perry-Johnson and

Dom Cella.

They were assisted by students in the TV Practicum class, including Rebekah Teel, Alvin Stuckey Jr., Ellen Stuart, Brian Crockett, Kiana Waits and Leighton Hall.

Henderson Today is produced each week and covers national, state and local news that matters to the community, as well as sports and entertainment. It can be viewed on YouTube at hsutv and on Suddenlink Channel 9.
