A Hot Springs man was arrested early Saturday after allegedly assaulting his wife while intoxicated.

Raymond Michael Combs, 41, of 122 Jordan Street, was taken into custody at his residence around 3 a.m. and charged with third-degree domestic battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail. He was later released on $1,000 bond and is set to appear in Garland County District Court

April 17.

According to the affidavit, shortly before

2 a.m., Garland County Sheriff ’s Deputy Sta- cy Morgan was dispatched to 3340 Marion Anderson Road in reference to an unknown problem with a female who had knocked on the door of the resident there asking him to call police.

Upon arrival, Morgan made contact with the female who said her husband, identified as Combs, had become violent after the two had been drinking earlier that night. She said he punched her in the back of the head several times and pushed her onto the floor.

The victim had an abrasion on her right elbow and complained her head hurt. She said her husband was still in the house when she left to get help.

GCSD Sgt. Greg Kellar and Deputy Clayton Green arrived on scene as Morgan requested LifeNet to respond to check on the victim’s injuries.

LifeNet personnel stated the victim had been knocked out during the fight and had a knot on the back of her head behind her left ear. She was transported to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs for treatment.

Kellar, Green and Morgan went to the couple’s home to attempt to make contact with Combs. Morgan knocked on the front door, but did not get any response. Green walked around to the back and discovered the back door was unlocked.

Morgan called for Combs to come to the back door. After no response, he called for Combs a second time and reportedly heard Combs say, “Who gives a s - - t.”

After Kellar asked Combs to come out he finally complied and it was noted Combs appeared to be unsteady on his feet and stumbling as he walked to the door. Asked what had happened that night, Combs said, “nothing” and that he “was in bed.” He claimed his wife was also in bed and insisted nothing had happened.

Morgan then told Combs his wife was not in the house and that she had a neighbor call the police in reference to him beating her. Combs said he had not touched her and his wife was lying, but admitted they had been arguing.

Combs claimed his wife had a boyfriend over and he was the one that had beaten her. He said he broke the two up while they were fighting and made the boyfriend leave. He said he didn’t know the boyfriend’s name and that she was lying “to get him out of the house.”

Based on his wife’s visible injuries, Combs was taken into custody without further incident.

• A Hot Springs man was arrested Friday after allegedly assaulting his roommate twice.

Keith Dwayne Williams, 52, of 206 Ashley Drive, was taken into custody at his residence at 2:48 p.m. and charged with third-degree domestic battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail. He was later released on $1,000 bond and is set to appear April 11 in district court.

According to the affidavit, at approximately 12:15 p.m. Friday, GCSD Deputy Scott Hinojosa responded to the residence in reference to a battery call and made contact with the victim, who said Williams, his roommate, had hit him in the face several times. He said there was a witness present at the time of the battery who had left.

Later that day, shortly after 4 p.m., GCSD Deputy J.T. Dodge responded to the residence again regarding another disturbance and the victim and the witness were on scene and said Williams had been screaming at them and was in the back room.

When the room was checked, Williams was gone and the back door was open. Deputies found Williams hiding behind a shed in the yard and took him into custody.

The roommate said Williams had struck him several times with a folding-style camp chair and had hit him in the head. The victim was observed to have several cuts on his right lower arm and a bruise on the right side of his head.
