Local man arrested for alleged robbery

- MAX BRYAN

A Hot Springs man was arrested on felony charges early Saturday about five hours after he allegedly robbed a man at gunpoint.

Landon Kyle Davis, 18, who lists a Jackson Street address, was taken into custody at 1:40 a.m. Saturday and charged with aggravated robbery, punishable by up to life in prison, and possession of a controlled substance, punishable by up to six years. He remained in custody Monday in lieu of $250,000 bond and is set to appear April 18 in Garland County District Court.

According to the affidavit, just after midnight, Hot Springs police Officer Joey Vanderburg spotted a blue Chevy Cobalt with expired tags that matched the description of a vehicle reportedly used in a robbery earlier in his shift, so he made a traffic stop on East Maurice Street.

Davis, who was in the rear driver’s side passenger seat, and one of the four other occupants of the vehicle allegedly matched the description of suspects in a robbery that had occurred around 7 p.m. Friday.

The robbery victim told police that a car matching the description of the Chevy Cobalt pulled up and stopped next to him while he was on South

Street. He said a known suspect exited the front passenger seat and “football tackled him.” He said two black males, including one he knew as “Landon,” then exited the rear of the vehicle.

The victim said “Landon” pulled a gun out of his pants and placed it to his head. He reportedly stole $150 from the victim during the robbery.

A witness said he and the victim used to attend school with the known suspect who tackled the victim. The victim reportedly identified three of the vehicle’s occupants, including Davis, as involved in the incident.

The driver was reportedly operating the vehicle without a driver’s license, insurance or registration. HSPD Officer Billy Perkins located a container on the vehicle’s key chain containing 1 gram of marijuana after the occupants had exited the vehicle. When asked if he had any weapons, Davis gave Vanderburg a plastic bag containing half a gram of marijuana.

Perkins reportedly located a 9-mm firearm beneath the front passenger seat. Two small bags containing a total of 1.1 grams of cocaine were found in the door compartment next to the seat where Davis was sitting.
