Armed robbery under investigation

- STEVEN MROSS

A Hot Springs man was allegedly robbed at gunpoint Wednesday night by an unidentified acquaintance he was trying to buy a cellphone from, accord- ing to a Garland County sheriff ’s report.

The victim,

19, told sheriff’s investigators a friend,

19, drove him to the 200 block of Lodge Road shortly before 8 p.m. to meet the acquaintance to purchase a cellphone from him.

While he and the friend were sitting in the vehicle, the suspect, described as a black male in his 20s, 6 feet, 2 inches tall, weighing 120 pounds and wearing bluejeans and a red hoodie, came up and pointed a handgun at the victim.

He forced the victim to get out and, as soon as he did, his friend drove away leaving him there. The suspect took his cellphone and an undisclosed amount of money from his wallet and then told him to run and the victim fled.

The victim was not injured and did not know the name of the man he was meeting. The incident was still under investigation Thursday.

• A routine traffic stop on a vehicle with expired tags led to the arrest of a Pearcy man and Hot Springs woman on multiple felony drug charges late Wednesday.

Cameron Morris Whitworth,

26, who lists a Burmaster Lane address, and Kadie Mia Bays, 22, who lists a Pine Meadows Loop address, were both taken into custody around

11:30 p.m. and each charged with possession of methamphetamine with purpose to deliver, punish- able by up to 20 years in prison, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver involving pills and a suboxone film, punishable by six to 10 years.

Both sus- pects remained in custody Thursday in lieu of

$11,000 bond on each and are set to appear April 24 in Garland County District Court.

According to the affidavit, GCSD Deputy Justin Parker spotted a white Oldsmobile Cutlass westbound on Airport Road and noted the tags expired in February 2016 but the vehicle had a 2017 tab, so he stopped the vehicle at Airport and Adcock Road.

He made contact with the driver, identified as Bays, and front seat passenger, identified as Whitworth, and discovered both of them had suspended driver’s licenses, so Bays was

cited for driving on a suspended license, fictitious plates and no proof of insurance.

The vehicle was going to be towed since neither of them could drive and during an inventory of the vehicle’s contents prior to towing, Parker allegedly found a bag of what later tested positive for crystal meth, approximately 5.5 grams, 48 clonazepam pills, two glass pipes, including one with meth residue, and a piece of suboxone film.

Whitworth allegedly also had multiple baggies on his person containing another 1.7 grams of meth. Parker also found three cellphones in Whitworth’s possession and seven more phones inside the vehicle.
