A Hot Springs man was reportedly attacked and robbed by a known male suspect Monday morning, according to a Hot Springs police incident report.

The victim told police that shortly before 11 a.m. he drove to a residence in the 300 block of Bayles

Street to meet the suspect, who previously left shoes in the victim’s car. When he arrived, the suspect got into the passenger seat of the victim’s green 2001 Mazda Protege and asked him to pull behind a black car parked beside the residence, so he did.

At that point, the victim said the suspect turned toward him and punched him twice on the left side of his face. The victim jumped out of the car and reached for the keys in the ignition, but the suspect grabbed them first.

The victim then jumped back into the vehicle, following the suspect through the passenger side door. When the victim regained his footing, the suspect struck him in the face again.

The victim then fled on foot to a residence on Burroughs Street to call the police. As the victim was approaching Burroughs Street, he witnessed the suspect fleeing in the stolen vehicle with his cellphone still inside.

The victim told police he and the suspect had a prior altercation on Sunday over a female.

• A Hot Springs man arrested Monday evening for reportedly trying to steal merchandise from a local grocery store was soon facing a felony charge after drug paraphernalia was allegedly found in his possession.

Rex Adam Lehnherr, 44, who lists a Spring Valley Road address, was taken into custody around 6 p.m. and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, a felony punishable by up to six years in prison, and theft of property, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.

He remained in custody Tuesday in lieu of bonds totaling $4,500 and is set to appear May 2 in Garland County District Court.

According to the affidavit, Lehnherr was seen opening several packages of meat at Cash Saver, 800 Malvern Ave., and storing them in plastic storage bags, which he then concealed on his person.

When HSPD Officer Thomas Plummer questioned Lehnherr about the thefts, he noted he immediately showed remorse, stating he was “going through a divorce, but that did not excuse this.”

During this time, Lehnherr requested multiple times to use the bathroom. Plummer asked to search his person to ensure he did not have anything else hidden before permitting him to use the restroom, and he agreed.

Upon searching him, Plummer allegedly discovered a homemade silver pipe wrapped with electrical tape in his right front pocket. After he was taken into custody and searched more thoroughly, a tinfoil wrapped light bulb was reportedly found in the crotch of his pants. The light bulb had been modified to allow access to the interior of the bulb.

Lehnherr denied ownership of the items found on his person, but was unable to say to whom they belonged. When asked what the items were used for, he reportedly stated, “the pipe was used to smoke whatever was in the light bulb.” He then reportedly admitted “coke or crystal meth” had been contained within the light bulb.
