Hoffman misses point

Dear editor:

I want to say to Mr. Hoffman, “You’re welcome.” In a letter to the editor today (April 12, 2017) he thanked me for causing God’s blessings to be heaped on him because he took a stand and got persecuted for it. Wow! I didn’t know I had such power! I “caused” this? You and our president seem to have something in common: a persecution complex.

But once again, Mr. Hoffman has either missed the point or else he is glorying so much in his own salvation that he cares not a whit about the rest of us!

I want to say again that my concern is not for those who are arguing about the security of their salvation, but for my grandchildren and their children. The security of their world is at stake, especially when the present administration is sending signals that money is more important than the environment, more important than conservation, more important than the natural beauty of the world — and I could go on. Mr. Hoffman, my point-blank question is this: If God made the world and saw that it was good, what right do we have to cause it to be less than good? We are Godlike, I think you would agree, made in His own image.

For us to sit idly by and let this or any other administration sign away our clean air and clean water and waste our resources that can never be replaced is a shame, a crime and a sin. You can boast about your eternal life and say that some of us don’t have one coming all you want to, but what about the earthly life we are passing on to our descendants? In their future, will this world be worth living in? Or will you be content to let them go from birth to heaven without anything in between that is worth
