County chairs address HSV Democratic Club
HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The chairs the Democratic Party of Garland and Saline counties will address the
Hot Springs Village Democratic Club at 4 p.m.
Friday at the Coronado Center, 150 Ponderosa Drive. A 3 p.m. social hour will include appetizers and beverages.
Hayden
Shamel, chair of the Democratic
Party of Garland County, and Dustin Parsons, chair of the Democratic
Party of Saline County, are both professional educators.
Shamel is an English and Spanish instructor at Lakeside High School in Hot Springs. She taught at Arkansas Community College in Hope. She represented the 4th Congressional District as a delegate to the 2016 Democratic National Convention and is treasurer of the Virginia Clinton Kelley Women’s Club.
Parsons is a fifth-grade teacher at the Bauxite School District and is active in the Arkansas and National Education associations. A graduate of Arkansas Tech University, Parsons serves as vice chair of the County Committees for the Democratic Party of Arkansas. He is the son of a politician, former Saline County Judge Terry Parsons, and. represented the 2nd Congressional District as a delegate to the 2016 Democratic National Convention.

Democratic commissioner talks at lunch meeting
Democratic Party of Garland County will host a Brown Bag Series at noon Monday at 608 W. Grand Ave. Harold Davis will speak about the changes in the legislature concerning elections. Bring a lunch and join in for these educational meetings. More information, call 624-0300.
Davis was born in Hot Springs, graduated Henderson State University, in Arkadelphia, with bachelor degrees in business administration and secondary education. He is retired from Hot Springs School District and works part time at
Lowe’s. He and his wife started working as poll workers for Garland County Election Commission in 2012, and in 2016, he became chief judge. He was elected a Democratic Party commissioner in 2017.
Neighbor Services manager speaks to Oaklawn Park NA
Oaklawn Park Neighborhood Association will host a special speaker at 5:30 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church. Patti Thomas, Neighbor Services manager with the city of Hot Springs, will discuss neighborhood issues such as derelict and abandoned properties, unsightly yards, abandoned vehicles, etc.
Any residents or interested Hot Springs citizens are welcome. OP NA’s boundaries run from Central to Seventh Street and Greenwood to Emory. Because of the special speaker, there will be no regular April meeting, which would fall on the last Sunday of the month.

Oakhill Cemetery Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Oakhill Church.
