Coronado Library cards made widely accessible

-

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Those who are not Hot Springs Village property owners will now be able to purchase a Coronado Center Library card for $17.50.

The library has also modified its fine procedure. All books not returned by the due date will now include a daily fine of 15 cents per day for the first 30 days. At the end of 30 days, the borrower will be fined $50 per book or audiobook, and $20 per DVD.

With the elimination of Recreation’s annual fees for non-property owners in the 2017 Fee Schedule, the daily, weekly and 30-day options were still available at a higher rate for amenities, including the tennis and fitness center, outdoor recreation, and the dog park. The library has traditionally offered only an annual fee, and an alternative fee was not provided in the 2017 Fee Schedule.

The Coronado Center Library is a great asset to the Hot Springs Village community and one that sets it apart. The catalog of books, leased through a contract with Baker and Taylor, provides a variety of genres, authors and content. The extensive audiobook collection, DVD collection, puzzle loan center, paperback honor checkout and children’s corner provide experiences for all ages.

This year’s summer programming for youth includes children’s dance classes, Baitcaster’s Fishing Day, children’s cooking classes, Auntie M’s Pretzel Making, and summer story hours. Throughout the year, the library also has adult reading challenges, suggested readings, and book reviews.

The library’s success is also due to the Friends of the Coronado Center Library. FOCCL members donate their time, money and efforts to ensure the library is outfitted with the equipment, furniture and catalog items necessary for a successful operation. Their largest source of funding comes from book sales and Trivia Nights.

The library is subsidized through member POA assessments. Public libraries in Saline and Garland County are both tax-funded and offer access to anyone with proof of residency in their county.
