Suspect arrested for allegedly calling in false shooting report

- STEVEN MROSS

A Hot Springs man was arrested early Wednesday after allegedly calling 911 to report a shooting that never happened, prompting a response by numerous Hot Springs police officers.

Rory Lance Gaede, 55, of 246 Century Circle, was taken into custody shortly before 1 a.m. at his residence and charged with communicating a false alarm, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail. He was being held in lieu of $1,000 bond and is set to appear May 8 in

Garland County District Court.

According to the affidavit, around 12:30 a.m., Garland

County sheriff’s Deputy Clayton Green and HSPD officers responded to Gaede’s residence looking for the person who had called 911 earlier that morning regarding a shooting in the 400 block of Pleasant Street.

Approximately six to eight HSPD units had responded to the area only to discover the report was unfounded.

At the residence, Green made contact with Gaede, explained why he was there and asked him for his phone number. Gaede gave him a number and denied making the 911 call. Green noted Gaede was unsteady on his feet and knew from past dealings he had “a drinking problem.”

When asked, Gaede denied drinking anything. Green spoke to Gaede’s mother, who lived with him, and she reportedly said Gaede had called 911 because she would not give him his medication. She said he had already taken his medication and it wasn’t time for another dosage yet.

Gaede submitted to a portable breathalyzer test which reportedly registered his blood alcohol content at 0.16 percent, twice the legal limit, and he then admitted he had been drinking.

After he was taken into custody for communicating a false alarm, he reportedly gave Green his real phone number which matched the number the 911 call came from.
